Did you know Janet encouraged Paula Abdul to record music in the 1980s?

She was discovered at a Lakers game by The Jacksons and hired as a choreographer for one of their music videos.

Through this connection, she became close to Janet Jackson and choreographed her iconic music videos from her album Control and the tour that accompanied it.

Legend has it that Janet was impressed by Paula’s musical ear and singing voice that would occasionally be displayed during rehearsals and encouraged her to record a demo. So Paula started saving up money to do just that.

In 1987, Abdul used her savings to make a singing demo. Soon thereafter, she was signed to the newly formed Virgin Records America by Jeff Ayeroff, who had worked in marketing at A&M Records with Janet Jackson.

Her debut, "Forever Your Girl" would become one of the biggest debuts in music history - being certified 7x platinum with 4 number one singles.

Likely 8-9x platinum.

Would have been Diamond had they released I need you and State of attraction instead of it's just the way that you love me.

THe proper single era:

Straight up

I need you

Forever your girl

State of attraction

Cold hearted

Opposites Attract

6 #1s in a row.

It was certified 7xPlatinum on July 23rd, 1990.  It didn't fall off the Billboard 200 until February 1992 :rip: Plus it has sold 1,137,000 through Soundscan which has been active since May of 1991. The Soundscan total since 1991 plus the July 1990 Certification from July 1990 is enough for 8x Platinum. But this also doesn't include BMG Club Sales (which weren't a part of certifications until 1995). Plus in the early days of Soundscan, I think it only tracked like 40% of all sales? Diamond is pretty likely considering its monster run.

Same could be said for Rhythm Nation 1814, the #1 album of 1990, that hasn’t been certified since 1991. It should be 8-9x platinum by now. But we all know Janet is highly under-certified. janet. still stuck at 6x platinum from 1994 and crossed 7m in pure sales years ago. Control stuck at 5x platinum since 1988. All of her single certifications in the Soundscan era being lower than pure sales.  :rip:

Both queens need audits and updates immediately.

Both Rhythm Nation and Forever Your Girl are Diamond at the very least.
