US: Chromatica Debuted With 213K+ Units Without Tour Bundles, Ariana, and Blackpink

As we all know, Chromatica is often dragged by those with a bias against Gaga for having to "rely" on bundles and collaborations for success, which has resulted in many with this bias questioning its numbers without these things. While (for better or worse) it's not possible to know or even estimate where it would be without such things to date, now that the Chromatica Ball is over and boxscores are out, we can confidently estimate what the album debuted with in the US without tour bundles, plus we know just about what it debuted with without Ariana or Blackpink.

To start, let's remember that Chromatica debuted on the Billboard 200 chart with 274K units (205K Pure + 65K SEA + 4K TEA).

Next, let's see how many people ended up attending the three US dates that had bundles attached to them:

Tour Dates with Album Bundles & Their Attendance

MetLife Stadium: 53,155

Wrigley Field: 43,019

Fenway Park: 38,267

TOTAL: 134,441

According to Billboard, "20 percent to 30 percent of fans tend to redeem their album offers" for tours that include bundles, which was a necessary step for that bundle to count as an album sold before Billboard changed their rules surrounding bundles later in 2020. Given this, we can assume that anywhere from 26,888 - 40,332 bundles were redeemed as album sales from the Chromatica Ball. You can argue these numbers are actually too high even because not all the tickets that were sold for these shows actually sold in 2020, thus not every attendee had the chance to redeem any bundles.

Finally, we also know how many debut units the songs with Ariana and Blackpink contributed:

Rain On Me: 13,933 Units (13,333 SEA + 600 TEA)

Sour Candy: 7,175 Units (~6,526 SEA + 649 TEA)

What does all this mean? It means that without tour bundles or songs with Ariana or Blackpink, Chromatica would have debuted with around 47,996 - 61,440 units less than what it actually did, for an estimated debut of 213K - 226K units.

Q&A

Q: Why does this matter?

A: It doesn't, but some people sure think it does! Since these same people seem to love to pretend that Chromatica "actually" debuted anywhere from 100K - 150K or below without these things (because it totally makes sense to strip away things that made something more successful to reveal its "actual" success, right?), I thought it relevant to show that they are in fact wrong.

Q: What about merch bundles?
A: Unless you work for Billboard, there's literally no way to know for sure how many of any album's sales came from merch bundles since they don't reveal such breakdowns. Because of this, there's not much room for that point in this conversation where we do have hard numbers to work with for other points.

Q: I don't care, Chromatica is still a flop!
A: That's not a question, but you do you! ?‍♂️

For transparency, I did post a similar thread in 2020, but it was deleted in the ATRL purge earlier this year and the recently released boxscores showing how many people attended the bundled dates made the numbers more accurate, so I thought it was worth a repost. :gaycat3:

she still flop anyway with those number, especially after released her biggest fluke aka Shallow.

GP dislike Solo Gaga.
and prefer Collab Gaga :cm:

So you are saying that 25% of the sales came from tour bundles, Ariana and BP?

And that doesn't even count thongs and dildo bundles yet? :swan:

The album is at 1.3m US units as we speak, how are those numbers flop :dies:

And how is Shallow a 'fluke" when ARUTW from the same era is doing 500k+ daily :dies: Same goes for ur 2nd arguments about the GP preffering collab Gaga

Daily Spotify streams

BR - 600k+

PF - 500k+

ARUTW - 500k+

....

ROM - 450k

25% of debut week coming from bundles and singles TEA is perfectly normal and happens with every era out there, SC was the promo single during album's release week and ROM the current official single, why would the GP stream Plastic Doll or 1000 doves instead?! I swear, nothing you guys say ever makes any ******* sense :ahh:

That´s why they visited the record breaking Chromatica Ball with special guest Bradley Cooper, Ariana Grande and Blackpink.

18-22% ≠ 25%

There were no dildos, bundled or otherwise.

Two lines, two lies.

So you're telling us that even though Rain On Me only contributed ~13K of the albums debut SEA units, somehow the people that "only tuned in" for Rain On Me ended up contributing an additional 52K SEA units to the albums 65K SEA debut?

Good for her I guess. Still the album had terrible longevity.

Good 4 her, i guess. But the album had terrible longevity, went out of billboard 200 in just 41 weeks after an embarrassing chart run :deadbanana4:

People still bought the album for BLACKPINK and Ariana

This album isn’t worth a discussion.

I mean this was common knowledge for "SANE" chartsters since 2020 :dies:

Is this a set up for Gaga? Otherwise....

Do you honestly believe, BLINKS and Arianators bought the album because of the collabs?? :deadbanana4:

What kind of stupid logic is this? Maybe the era wouldn't have had the same hype without "ROM featuring Ariana" being a successful single and especially after SL's flop, it's not only about the streams the song brough during release week :rip:

The album had poor longevity. A certain girl The liddos constantly come for dropped an album with no videos that she's paying dust and is still Top 10 (damn near Top 5) after 8 weeks.

Why would that be?

Then how, pray tell, would you go about factually calculating where it would have debuted, without using anything made up or biased? Quickly.

In the end it´s a  #1 album that sold more than 1.0M units in the US with a #1 and a #5 single. These are good stats for a 6th studio album.

Joanne had almost 0 hype outside the base leading to the release but did 205k :dies:

At least Chromatica served better longevity outside US :coffee2:

Its cute how you ignored all the merch bundles that grossly inflated the album too.
