Why didnt they update Always Be My Baby or Fantasy?

Edit - Nevermind. I didnt see it was already certified before

Really confused why TEOM isn't 8x Plat... I'd think with the success of WBT & SIO on streaming it would be there. The album is at ~700M Streams on Spotify alone, probably at 1.5-2B Total with AM and others.

It was last certified 6x Plat in 2006, in 16 years it only amassed 1M Units? I feel like that's really hard to believe especially with the success of the vinyls recently.

It's around 600K. Chartnews (The old Chartdata) updated it a while back.

555K as of 2014, if it's selling around 5-10K a year, it should be very close to 600K or crossed it. It could be even higher since she released it on vinyl.

7M can be anywhere between 7.1M and 7.9M to be fair.

Mariah is standing at...

73,000,000 albums certs - #1 alltime - females

61,000,000 singles certs

= 134,000,000 albums and singles (not including VHS, DVD and Mastertone sales).

America's biggest female act did that.

E=MC² should be 2xP. By July 2018 it stood at 1,7 million sps.

It costs money to certify, not sure why she wouldn't wait. The physical albums of TEOM have been 5.98 in 2013... But it was certified 6x Platinum in '06 so there were definitely some sales unaccounted for in 2006. Not sure how much but it for sure should've pushed it past 8. If I'm doing the calculation properly, 1B Streams would be 800K sales, and that's a lower number. :ace:

Beyoncé undercertified her stuff too. Halo and Single Ladies have been diamond for years now and she certified both to 9x Platinum for whatever reason.

Came to say this. Thanks Obsessed virality. TEOM has been a long time coming. Sheesh.

At this point, I think all her albums are not certified properly.

Lemme check:

Merry christmas going diamond and The Ballads collection since her debut and other albums will likely not hit diamond she can parse out some ballads and use future streams to add to that since it is uncertified but sold almost 400k and could hit gold if the right amount of streams are applied

• Soundscan - Best Selling Albums of 2005.

1) TEOM: 4.98M

2) The Massacre: 4.83M

3) Breakaway: 3.94M

(…)

•  Soundscan Best Selling Albums of 2006.

73) TEOM: 782K

(…)

Overall:

5.76M

The album didn’t make Soundscan’s Top 100 selling albums list in 2007 or any other year thereafter.

As a whole, it’s 6x platinum update in 2006 makes sense (shipments).

That said, only “WBT” is adding to the albums SPS. The other singles (“ILT, SIO, DFAU”) have incredibly weak recurrent streams so we can’t expect much from that.

Ultimately, its the record labels that audit their artists certifications before requesting updates from the RIAA. As another user said, a song or albums said total could be anywhere between .1 - .9 but this isn’t known unless a full methodical breakdown of the aforementioned units are at hand. This is why sometimes the RIAA certifies a song platinum in one update and then 2x platinum the next, sometimes in the space of a day or week. It’s definitely a little ridiculous but it’s understandable why it happens.

I don’t think “TEOM” is close to 8x platinum yet.

WBT (6X Plat + 1X Plat Mastertone) = 700K SPS for Mimi
ILT (G) = 50K

SIO (1X Plat + G Mastertone) = 150K

DFAU (1X Plat + G Mastertone) = 150K

From the singles it seems there was enough sales to push it to 1M album equivalent units.

…I’m not sure if Billboard count Mastertone though in the recent recertification though (so, is WBT at 7M+ units? Or does the 6X Platinum cert include the 1M+ ringtones sold?). I would guess the SPS of Mimi would be around 7.1-7.5M depending on the state of the Mastertones. Definitely won’t be seeing 8X Platinum anytime soon.

What really intrigues me is her debut. It was certified 9X Platinum in 1999. The streams of the album are abysmal but it received some pressings since 1999 and there should be ~300K of SPS from the singles at least. It would be amazing if Merry Christmas/Mariah Carey both snatched a Diamond cert and Mariah ends up with 4 Diamond albums :jonnycat:

I’m sure it’s closer but how close is a mystery.

Pure sales: 130k

#Beautiful: 200K+ SPS

Rest of album: 100K SPS?

The streams are pretty terrible so it would be up to #Beautiful to drag it to 500K :'(

According to Chartnews, the album sold 6.1M (Pure) by 2015. Shouldn’t the shipments that pushed it to 6M in 2006 still count since it’s probably mostly digital sales since that era?

SIO & ILT should add some sps cause SIO has probably 250M streams throughout streaming services. With the SPS, I thought the album would be close to 8M but I guess I could be wrong. Thanks for the (break) breakdown. @Both Sides Now

soundscan had TEOM at 6,2 million in pure sales in July 2018. I don't get the drag.
