In a breakdown of the financial struggles Warner Bros. Discovery is currently facing by The Hollywood Reporter, an interesting piece of information emerged: Comcast has its eye on acquiring the struggling company and merging it with NBCUniversal.

While the unification of Warner Bros. with Discovery seemed to be a beneficial one for all involved, things have quickly gone south. From the cancellation of Batgirl and Scoob: Holiday Haunt to the purging of numerous films and shows on HBO Max to massive layoffs, Warner Bros. Discovery's birth was quickly met with bad press and a legion of angered creatives. The highly publicized moves by new CEO David Zaslav saw WBD's stock plummet, and that's reportedly what has so enticed Comcast.

Per THR, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts is eagerly awaiting April 2024, when the legal hurdles preventing the purchase of WBD will be out of the way.

the HBO Max purge is reportedly saving the company millions, money that's sorely needed as it faces $50 billion in debt.

The way we are witnessing the tv and film industry merge like music industry did years ago to create the big 3.

im predicting Disney, paramount and universal to be the final players

Do all these mergers not violate anti-trust laws?

Yup but nothing will be done. See: Disney buying Fox

That is NOTHING for a company owned by Warner, which spends hundreds of millions per year to make films and makes even more in profit.  This company was mismanaged and money was definitely being given to the wrong people for this to be the result.

This should not be allowed to go through if they actually start engaging.

We’re getting closer and closer to watching the big merger company from BoJack Horseman become a reality. :deadbanana:

It doesn't necessarily violate them, there's more to it than just saying yes or no

That makes sense for them. I was thinking the other day how NBC Universal was completely unprepared for the international market. Disney and HBO Max had major international rollouts almost immediately; NBC does not really have the brand recognition to bring Peacock to the rest of the world and make it successful. They’ve launched in like 5 European markets but that’s nothing compared to the 100+ of HBO, Disney and Netflix.

Lmao not Tony Khan and Stephanie McMahon having to share the same rival shows on Peacock if that happens :bibliahh:

I can't wait until Disney buy Warner NBCUniversal Bros. Discovery.

They legally can't. :rip:

Honestly the only way I can see the industry managing to be more than just 3 giant studios would be if Amazon or Apple managed to take their studios to higher levels but at this rate idk.

It’s not surprising. There’s no way the archaic strategy shift WB had in mind was going to heal its wounds.

The WBDiscovery merger has been a disaster

  • Discovery was good at branding tv channels where you knew what you were getting before even watching: FOOD network, HOME & GARDEN TV, ANIMAL Planet, INVESTIGATION Discovery...etc

  • Discovery is good at non-scripted reality shows built around personalities interacting with people in suburbs and big cities

Neither of the above indicated they would be good at the VAST intellectual properties of Warner Bros at all.
