Spoiler

Watching it was definitely difficult as a survivor of child sexual abuse, myself and my younger sister did definitely relate to some of the things that happened such as not being believed and keeping it hidden under the carpet, it wasn't family that abused us, it was some older people that we used to hang about with, one girl made me and my younger sister French kiss each other as well as show the other people our genitals and made me do stuff like touching my sister's boobs and all too, I was 12 when I think this all happened, my younger sister was 7 and a half I think. My mental age is younger due to a brain injury I had when I was born and I'm also autistic too.

Cooper deserves an award for episode 5 alone.

Just finished it, I like it very much, but I still have some strong opinions on how this case was handled on the show (innecessary oversexualization at times, in particular). I got to remember myself it's a Ryan Murphy show and not a documentary, and I remember that every time that Milli Vanilli song plays, my God, I am sorry, but it is just so unserious. :toofunny3:

Anyways, great acting especially for the brothers, they did a terrific job. For me, personally, I could connect with Cooper the better, Alexander was more psycopath-like persona, which maybe it suits the character idk.

I was very hooked during the first half, my attention fell off during the other half, Idk, some repetitive/predictible scenes, etc. Not my favorite show by him by any means, but it was an interesting one. In the end, who knows what really happened inside that house.

Cooper better win the emmy for the hurt man episode. That was a masterclass in acting,so deep,so raw and the tear drop at the right moment. He nailed that episode and it was just him basically during 36 mins. I believe they were abused since the cousin did actually tell their mom and she said they were lying and that singer who said jose menendez abused him and drugged him when he was 14. There is a pattern here. I believe they should be released and enjoy the remaining days of their lives. 100 times raped by yr dad and learning to do oral at such a young age. And saying he doesnt know his sexual orientation cuz thats all he knew and learning to masturbate at 6 year old. This struck me deep cuz i had a very similar experience as a kid not by my father thank god but with siblings. I thank ryan for that cuz i see a reflection of myself after so many years. I rewatched that episode 3 times already even though the guy is acting, i was reminded of my childhood watching porn at 5 years old.

I'm so sorry you went through that :( no person should ever have to suffer that kind of sh*t but I just wanted to say that you are loved and that it was NEVER your fault.

I found the direction and writing a bit of a let down but great acting.

Yes. I could finish this and had to skip to the end actually, I got triggered by my own abuse. Difficult watch. :hughard:

I thought it was good and I agree cooper was a huge standout! Although both did great. I really feel the actual brothers and hope they are able to appeal somehow.

Finished the show: I enjoyed it more than Dahmer. It wasn't too overblown, mostly even and actually entertaining for its subject matter, very much like ACS OJ, which was great. Tho Dahmer broke me with the highlight that was "Silenced". :cries2:

Can't wait for the tell-all show about Ryan Murphy some day - if the NDAs are not too ironclad lol. That will be juicy!

This show is amazing so far (Episode 7), but I understand where some of the criticisms come regarding repetitiveness. Though all of it is forgiven because of the performances, I'm amazed by both leads and it's insane how effectively they can convey such different personalities. I understand why Cooper seems to be the standout since his character is more sympathetic and emotionally connects, but Nicholas' acting is insane given how far Lyle seems to be from his actual personality. How you can go from totally believing him to being scared of his attitude within seconds is admirable. Both of them have bright futures ahead and hopefully the Emmys will recognize them, but there's a certain "it" factor about Nicholas that's just captured me. Agree that Javier and Chloe might have been slightly underused, fascinating ensemble anyway.

Well Nicholas will probably go further as hes "straight" and goodlooking. And ryan seems to already have him wrapped up in his arms. Compared to cooper who is gay and will be stereotyped (unfortunately)

"Dahmer" was a monster (at the time, it was Netflix's biggest series debut on record) and the "Menendez" start is just… good.

The debut weeks for Netflix's "The Perfect Couple" (20.3 million views) and "Emily in Paris" Season 4 (19.9 million views) had bigger opening weeks than "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story." As a matter of fact, their second weeks both had more views than "Monsters" did in its first week.

I think they both have equal chances to succeed, Cooper's performance is resonating more, especially given the attention "The Hurt Man" has gotten. I don't think his sexuality will stop him from achieving anything, especially acclaimed work in TV and film, which is probably more valuable nowadays than mainstream success. And being a usual player in Ryan Murphy's production can actually be a double edged sword, like Cody Fern who kicked it off with an acclaimed performance in ACS and had it go downhill with Apocalypse. Both should get very very far.

Are the phone tapes real? Both are them are as dumb as each other. First being recorded by the therapist and then saying all that on a phone call.

I went down a rabbit hole after watching the show and apparently there is a small change in the show the night of the murders: the brothers stayed a while in the house after the murders expecting that a neighbor had called the police. It's only slightly after that that they improvised an alibi and came back to call the police themselves. Deep down I think that they wanted to get caught. So them confessing left and right is not surprising. It might have been a to heavy secret to bear anyway at such a young age.

That being said the show was spectacular. I knew next to nothing about the case beforehand so it was way more impactful I guess.

I didn't have the strength to finish Dahmer because of how intense it was. Here the balance was perfect.
