Netherlands confirms illegal Chinese police stations exist in country

China has opened unofficial police stations in London as part of a growing network of Communist Party-linked offices accused of hunting down and blackmailing Chinese citizens to force them to return home.

The stations are ostensibly meant to help Chinese people abroad with paperwork, such as extending Chinese driver’s licences and official documents. But state media reports show some of the centres have been involved in collaborating with Chinese police to carry out operations abroad.

Thirty-six such stations have so far been opened in 16 European countries, including France, Spain, Britain and Germany.

By using the police “service” stations instead of following formal extradition proceedings, the Chinese government “manages to avoid the growing scrutiny of its human rights record”.

It also avoids the difficulties faced in obtaining the return of “fugitives” through legal proceedings, the Safeguard Defenders report said.

How is this different than having embassies in different countries?

if its not legal, then why are operations open?

You think that's bad, the FBI insisted on being on a police raid in my country, and removed electronic information seized in the search. What evil crime was being committed you might wonder, that required the FBI to get involved? Mass murder? Kidnapping? International terrorism?

No of course not, the FBI don't care about that. The investigation and raid was about copyright infringement, and the FBI were there to represent the interests of the Hollywood studios.

Not this off topic meltdown :skull: so seizing electronics is somehow worse than kidnapping “political dissidents” (aka people escaping Hong Kong) and forcing them back to a country that doesn’t have a transparent Justice system and actively runs concentration camps? :skull:

Back to the topic at hand… I’d say these are run unofficially because embassy staff have to be declared. It would look bad for China to pursue state sanctioned kidnappings, and even worse for the host country to allow that to happen. Think about the mess that ensued with Khashoggi being killed in the Saudi embassy in Turkey.

So foreign interference in other countries legal systems is good when it's American interference?

In any case, I hope the thread starter comes up with something better than a paywalled link to the right wing Telegraph site.

This story is kinda picking up steam now:

The Dutch government confirmed that they are aware of 2 illegal Chinese police stations in their country, which they consider illegal and will take action against. The police station was mostly used to blackmail or oppress Chinese citizens living in the Netherlands.

I suspect that other countries will soon come forward, as it was already confirmed by external researchers that the illegal stations had been established in over 20 countries around the globe.

The BBC reported it and quotes Dutch foreign ministry spokeswoman Maxime Hovenkamp: "The Dutch government wasn't made aware of these operations through the diplomatic channels with the Chinese government. That is illegal."

Where are the "Leftists" to defend this?

Even when they leave the country, the Chinese government still wants to terrorize their citizens.

Totalitarianism demands complete surrender of your self to the state. It is evil incarnate. All who support it in its various forms (including communism and fascism) are evil; their words are poison, do not let them speak or they will try to put a spell on you.
