I think it feels disconnected because Pearl and X were more about Pearl's story and now it's 100% Maxine's.

Look I don't love the first two, but enjoyed them. I do like the originality of the trilogy. Too bad AHS did 1984 so it does bring same vibe (and the night stalker as well...), but visually looks nice, engaging trailer.
