Hong Kong, Singapore and Penang are benefitting from your strategic location as main ports hence no wonder you guys experienced such development in infrastructures etc. But it's totally different situation in the rest of colonized territories, we get our resources sucked dry yet the developments are minuscule, here's where all the evil things happened. :monkey:

Yep, that's the thing about living here. If you don't go and read up about colonization on your own, you may even develop colonial nostalgia.

Some people suffered Stockholm syndrome and I just cannot :deadbanana4:

"We should thank the Queen because she granted us the freedom and independence" Wtf was that :deadbanana4:

You won't beg for independence if there's no colonisation at first place :deadbanana4:

This thread is weird. While the rest of the world is saying "RIP," ATRL is comparing Queen Elizabeth to Adolf Hitler. This thread gives off QAnon vibes and is exactly why I tend to stay out of the ATRL's Civics section.

But that's her NATION'S past NOT HER past. Please understand the distinction. Same to you @Communion and @ClashAndBurn. The UK Prime Ministers have had all the political power for a very long time. Elizabeth herself never colonized any region. You can't possibly blame someone for their ancestors actions.

Is she not an icon and symbol of that very nation you speak of?  We would not be having this conversation if she was not.

incorrect, to start with USSR entered the war on Germanys side, invaded Finland , allowed the Germans to massacre Warsaw

history is much more complex than simple evil and good countries, if you studied it you would realise   I had the benefit of studying lots of history at school

Clearly you did not study it enough.  Because if you did you would know that we have the USSR to thank for the the defeat of the Nazis in 1945.

I said it first

Did she gave birth to a daughter? She should name her Queen Elizabeth in that case

User who defends pretty much everything bigoted that happens here comparing people critical of the royals and of imperialism to QAnon. :dies:

Most of you aren't even British, haven't had to put up with the endless royalist propaganda we do and still chose to buy into the whole thing anyway. Truly embarrassing. :rip:

Why didn't The Queen do the exact opposite of her job

Trying to frame the QUEEN as a worker and laborer just being exploited :skull: At that point you might as well argue slave owners were just people doing their job too. Sis, be serious.

You’re a Britney fan

when all those publications who used to scrutinize Britney and mock her during her mental breakdown days in the mid 2000s, suddenly started supporting her last year during the conservatorship battle…did you call them out or did you speak nicely about them?

I can't blame them. Hong Kong is a living example of a nation that flourished under colonialism and didn't really want to be decolonised. That's an uncomfortable truth for a lot of leftists.

I just wanna say that the Queen did decolonise more nations under her reign than any other monarch ever did.  Blaming someone for what they inherited isn't really making a point, what she did with it on the other hand. Also, Imagine being one of the last few remaining people who are supportive of Meghan "I'm practically Mandela" (lost her) Marbles. The backlash her and her delusional mouth have received over recent months and it's increasing intensity is slowly but surely becoming irreparable. What Joan Collins said.

Sooo if we are going to give the queen credit for the decolonisation that happened under her rule should we not also give her credit for operation legacy? If the decolonisation was down to her then the full scale attempt to cover up the atrocities of the British empire was also down to her no?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Legacy

Oh but Meghan said a thing, that's what truly matters of course.

I send my deepest sympathies to Ireland for having to live next to such insufferable neighbors, especially now. My thoughts are with them as they endure these times.

This thread is tame compared to a lot of the rest of the internet where her corpse is getting beaten up like a piñata

Even the Prince Philip death thread was way messier than this one. (IIRC I think it even got to 100 pages more quickly, why? Surprised?)

Because the forum is throttled by constant 503 errors, making it extremely hard to browse and post.

Outside of the memes her death is a non-event. People just moved on.

So it's up to Justin Trudeau on whether there will be a National Holiday in Canada... we are doomed. Just when I thought I'd finally benefit for the first time from the existence of the monarchy :'(

Coming back to this thread and apparently there was a Hitler reference ? I couldn't care less about this woman's passing and her history (past and present) shows she objectively was not a good person. But, Hitler ? guys. :rip:
