the way Argentinians are still bitter over that stupid war in the 80s :rip:

- The Pope said Spain could have the island because they were catholic (religious imperialism). thats their claim to the island.

- It was a distraction because the gov. of Argentina was doing a horrendous job running the country

- 99.9% of the Falklanders want to remain British

YOU LOST in every way possible.  not the founder of the island. no legitimate claim. no one on the island wants to be Argentinian.

Lizzy WON

Forgive me for not wanting to be an ******* celebrating ol liz’s death I guess.

I can have my opinions and grievances about the royal family and the queen but there’s a time and place, don’t think now is that time to “go off” on a dead woman. :skull:

You don’t have to be such a royalist.  Lizzy is dead and cannot are you.

I think it is rather offensive honestly for you to go around telling people, many of which have been affected by her nation’s brutal past and present, how they should and should not respond to this news.  It is not really your place.

When did I say I was a royalist? Get off my notifications  :skull:

Sis, do you think the people laughing at her death are gonna be sad about any living former US president dying?

Not just presidents either. Madeleine Albright and Colin Powell dying after the evil they’ve caused in the world led to a lot of similar discourse, and the same will happen with Henry Kissinger, Condoleezza Rice, and Hillary Clinton. :jonny5:

And I won’t have much to say personally about Carter, but pretty much every president since him has been worse and more irredeemably evil in every way.

So yeah. It’s funny to see people act like we can’t comment on Elizabeth’s colonizer ass dying because we wouldn’t do the same to the evil people that run our own irredeemably evil collapsing empire. :ahh:

Does it surprise you? The president of my country asked Spain for forgiveness even when it's been 200 years since the country is independent :rip:

Also Falklands became kind of a 'patriotic' symbol for Argentina. Like, for example, Texas still gets on the nerves of some of my compatriots even when it happened almost 200 years ago :dies:

Falklands are also an example of UK's imperialism all over the world tho. The Queen wasn't the primary responsible for that (she was mostly an image rather than someone who takes every decision in the country), but well, they need to blame it on someone

Have they started to attack Meghan for some reason yet? :skull:

Yes they have, for 'ventilating' secrets of the Crown and skipping the protocol unlike the classy and wonderful queen :dies:

But that's her NATION'S past NOT HER past. Please understand the distinction. Same to you @Communion and @ClashAndBurn. The UK Prime Ministers have had all the political power for a very long time. Elizabeth herself never colonized any region. You can't possibly blame someone for their ancestors actions.

Trolling aside, the Queen was such a representative figure in history and in the culture of the UK (and I could say in the world). Her job as a Queen was well done, always with discipline and sticking with the schedule it represented. I wouldn't say her work was wrong done, she was basically born to be loved, to be always in the middle of huge crowds and to give this maximum image of what a public person should be. Kind of a precursor for celebrities and influencers if you ask me. She was born to be famous, to be loved by the UK, and she in fact gained the love of millions.

In the other hand, being the representative image of an imperialist country meant she wouldn't be able to have her hands clean. Also, it's not 1950 anymore, social media can dig faster and bring into the light some of the dirty stuff going on in her personal life behind cameras. As a person, she wasn't a saint definitely, and I might say she is responsible for some issues going around til this day.

She is a polarizing figure for this. The Queen in front of cameras could be lovable and charming, that's why many people love her and defend her, but definitely there was a lot of shady stuff going on behind the scenes. A white privileged woman who was born in the 20s? Her privilege was built upon the suffering of many other people for sure.

RIP anyways

The Queen had zero responsibility in that. It was all on Margaret Thatcher.

Jokes are a kii and bring the laughs but girlies who *really* want to stick it to the Brits should retweet and promote reminders that neither jokes OR apologies keep lights on and the Brits have some outstanding debts to pay:

The greatest way to honor Liz's legacy is by giving her fortune to the colonies she apparently loved so much. :clap3:

I just think Elizabeth is a totally wrong target for people's hatred. The Empire has dissolved during her time. She merely took the job that was given to her but never was a colonizer.

These rabid leftists are completely powerless

I don't think you're helping your case by framing the British monarchy as omni-powerful against the powerless, sis.

If Queen Elizabeth II oversaw the end of colonization in her time, did she then call for the return of all stolen artifacts and treasures alongside rightful reparations to countries she once oversaw, even as a gesture of support?

Imagine how powerful it would have been for the totally symbolic face of the British empire to do so.

I wonder why she never did if there's no evidence showing such.

Robbed from the colonized regions, yes. But it's just wrong to call her a colonizer when she's just sat there, basically a wallflower, for 70 years. And if she had declined to become The Queen her peopke would have called her a traitor.

You're not even british or live in the commonwealth. It's all performative outrage. That's why I deleted my post, because it was participating in this circus being made out of a woman's death but of course you snatched it in the literal 2 seconds it was up and wrote an essay out of it. Touch grass.

You mean like the people in the current colonies demanding reparations?

What moral argument is there against the case Jamaica puts forward against Britain?

Are you suggesting people in places like Jamaica *don't* want people supporting their demand?

Posted

And @Communion the British Museum holds most of the artifacts so it's on them to return them. And the government decides the Royal Family's budget, I believe, so idk Elizabeth would have been able to donate money like that anyway.
