I agree with you on the principles. I think the Monarchy can never truly be socially conscious though. So if Elizabeth dies now, that could be the end of it all for the family. Maybe if Diana was alive there could be a future for it, but Charles has been disgraced and Andrew even more so, so idk. I don't think Kate is quite the Queen of Hearts that Diana was either. But I respect her. Either way this is a historic moment to live in.

It could go either way: on one hand it could severely weaken the monarchy, because she was quite a charismatic leader for the british; on the other hand the never seen before outpouring of grief might benefit the pro-monarchy groups, since Great Britan has been in a (more) conservative moment for a while and it's all about how to capitalize the momentum. I think the Royals had the scenarios planned, especially regarding William and Kate taking the spotlight the last years. It's a sign they have someone ready to surf public opinion and guarantee the continuity of the institution, regardless of Charles. Harry has distanced himself from the institution, but I lowkey can see a rekindle of sorts a few years from now
