Queen Elizabeth II laid to rest: 1926-2022

The entire western world gobbles up so much resources that we can't even point that out without sounding hypocritical. And would she have been able to decline her position as the Queen to be in her youth? People would have called her a traitor so fast. Saying that she's no Queen in spirit is just rude because for millions of people around the world she very much is the Queen and maybe the only one. She's done her job and she's always had a tremendous responsibility to deal with. She couldn't spend years on an online forum shooting sh*t like we have been able to. It is some kinda privilege also to have nobody care about what you do or say, when you really think about it.

The “I can’t criticize someone else because of what the East does” logic is SO inherently flawed I don’t know where to begin. If we’re going to refrain from criticizing events due to our geographies, we better stop every single protest and cease all political commentary. Two wrongs don’t make a right, so the East gobbling up resources doesn’t make it permissible for the monarchy to do so. I criticize the East constantly because there is much to criticize; but that means I can criticize other people/institutions as well. No one is immune from being wrong.

And true, the queen is not as powerful as a politician, but to act as though she is powerless as a symbol (especially in her later years, I’ll cut her some slack when she was young) demonstrates a deep lack of understanding of what her role represents. Remember when Kate started rewearing expensive dresses? The bare minimum, sure, but at least one way she was able to say “hey, all this spending is ridiculous while others die of hunger.” She could have challenged some norms. The Queen is not entirely powerless and could have inspired so much change from within had she the desire to do so, but she did not. While millions suffered, she reveled in endless wealth and excess waste for nothing.

If it offends you that I said she is no queen, good. Perhaps we need to have more dialogue like this so that we can begin to demand more from our leaders (in the East and elsewhere, since apparently I need to specify).

not a fan of the royal family but it’s sad to see her go. hopefully with Charles becoming king the country becomes more disillusioned with the royals.

I think she's died and the official announcement will be at 6pm

Based on the BBC window and the flowers, that makes sense.

I don't think the former has anything to do with the latter but the former has happened before and not just with UK royals and I do buy it.

It is actually Royal Protocol that any announcement of HM The Queen's death is not immediately revealed to the public.

The information will be tightly controlled for security reasons and we'll likely be the last to know.

The chance for leaks ahead of time is low, considering the Royal Physician will be in charge of who exactly has access to her bedside and who knows about the true state of her health and this information will be heavily classified and restricted.

Well then there you go. I too then think she's already passed.

So this will be the end of the monarchy.

The only person that would’ve kept everything good after Lizzie was Diana with her charisma even with Charles being king, but Charles with Camila is probably the worst of worst you could place after her legacy.

Imagine a monarchy of centuries and centuries ending with a loser like him :skull:

It would be an embarrassment for the history books.

Have to agree with this.

I honestly think the labor party will try to abolish the monarchy with Charles on the throne and it will be their best chance considering how unpopular Charles and Camila are

I personally don't. Get William as king and have a big reformation. That's the only way I think the monarchy will be able to survive.

Not really. She will not be queen or even queen consort.

She is already sipping tea with her friend Margaret Thatcher in hell.
