Macron rejects gas supply conexion between Iberian Peninsula and rest of EU

Gas supply has become a big issue for most of Europe due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there's a project called 'Midcat' which consists on building a big pipe line that connects the Iberian Peninsula with the rest of Europe which allows liquified gas that comes from countries like Algeria to go through Spain and Portugal to the rest of Europe. Countries specially Germany and Italy see this as a great way to minimize the impact of Russian gas cuts and an alternate way of supplying Europe. The European Commision even agreed to share the cost of it, however France has rejected it once again.

Macron alludes that it isn't necessary because according to him the current small ones aren't operating to full capacity and because it's not a solution that looks on the future as gas is a fossil fuel and Europe has to find other options, meanwhile he went on a trip to Algeria seen as a "veiled" gas trip after which gas imports increased 168% [x]

More like he doesn't want Frances energy export to other countries to be affected lol They've been blocking this for decades.

yeah is 100% trying to monopolize gas from Algeria and other African nations so he sees Spain controlling pipelines as an issue. Gross ****.

Disgusting, specially because Germany is burning gas right now they desperately need themselves since half of the French nuclear power plants are offline. When it suits France it’s "We need solidarity from the EU" and when it doesn’t it’s  "**** the EU".

France voted for him so as you make your own bed, you lie into it.

Not really, it's more like he wants to sell his nuclear generated electricity to other european countries at a high price taking advantage of the Ukraine situation. He doesn't want to make that connection Iberian Peninsula with the rest of Europe because that would allow Spain/Portugal to be a much cheaper and reliable supplier. At the end he is trying to use such an awful situation to cripple other European countries while France trumples over them.

France has a history of continuosly blocking and trying to isolate the Iberian Peninsula (specifically Spain). From pushing back on it's addition to the EU, from French farmers throwing away agricultural spanish product at the border because they didn't want to compate fairly to the shitty road connections Spain-France.

Ironically France is currently paying some of the highest electric bills in the continent and has half of it's nuclear plants mantainance and production halt because of the drought, among other things. Ironically they've started to buy a ton of gas that comes from Morocco/Argelia via Spain to lower the electric bill, but I guess it's fine if they do, they just don't want the rest of Europe to do it...

France has always been very pro-EU as long as it's only in their benefit. Honestly that's kind of the whole North-Central Europe way of treating the south

Good old colonialism. Don't worry the Germans will find someone else to steal gas from.
