Imagine if streaming was a thing for some of these older songs like "No Scrubs" prob would be like 100x Platinum lmao

Stay isnt remotely R&B.:skull: They wrote it as a Pop ballad

Rude Boy & Umbrella fit in the umbrella

Take Care is supposed to be EDM so no

& Run The World shouldn't be listed here either

I deleted Run the World. I wasn't sure to included it since it's more eletropop than R&B

So for 2011 I only left Love On Top

Alicia Keys and her label were fools not releasing Empire State of Mind Pt.II as an official single in US

It would have easily been 4x platinum if given proper promo & radio push

2.6 million physical singles was huge for 1998 & Double Platinum + songs were rare prior to downloading & streaming (about 30 1989-99). That being said, yeah TBIM may need an update.

Rude Boy and What’s my name are pop song with island/dancehall influence. Umbrella in pop song with rock influence. Stay is pop ballad. Run the World is electropop. No one is mostly a pop ballad. Being black isn’t r&b please

"Stay" is a pop and R&B[11][12] ballad that consists of piano and bass guitar instrumentation.[13][14][15][16] It is written in the key of C major,[17] having the chord progression of C-Dm-Am-F. The song has a moderate tempo of 112 beats per minute.

Umbrella" is a pop,[6] hip hop[7] and R&B[8][9] song with rock influences.[6] The song's musicscape is based on the hi-hat, synthesizers, and a distorted bassline.

Rude Boy" is an dancehall and R&B song.[7][8] which incorporates elements of raggamuffin.[6][9] The song is written in the key of E minor (recorded in E♭ minor) with a time signature in common time and a tempo of 87 beats per minute

Using the Grammys genre placements:

Stay was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance

Rude Boy was submitted in the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance category. The R&B panel said NO.

Umbrella wasn't placed in any R&B categories. They nominated Hate that I love you for R&B song and performance instead, while Umbrella was in Rap/sung performance.
