naval23 Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 For people who have used both, what are features Android has that Apple doesn't (and vice-versa: What features does Apple have that Android doesn't)? For example, To track monthly data usage - you need to manually do it for Apple monthly vs. Android is automatic once you set the tracking period. Widgets in Android are interactive vs. in Apple, they're just on the screen (ex: for the TickTick app, you can easily check off items on your to do list from your widget on Android, in Apple you'd have to tap the checklist and it'd opens the app for you to check it off) What are other features you've noticed?

Also the visual customization is so much easier. Edited September 3, 2022 by ChapelHooker
Starshine Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 Probably the interactive widgets even though Google abandoned support for years until recently , the ability to download apps outside and not locked to the Play Store, split-screen mode, customization that allows you to personalize your phone to a T. Apple has been ahead with Universal Clipboard and their refined Wallet app features, which Android 13 (specifically Google phones) are just recently getting and upping their native support. I'd say iOS 16's lock screen is better now with the customizations. I also like their privacy features with hidden emails, Safari's VPN-like feature, and preventative app tracking. It's really just preference at this point. Personally, I like a streamlined walled garden that simply just works within an ecosystem of devices whereas others may prefer something more personalized and suited for them. The paradox of choice just makes me uninterested in Android.
tellem Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 Samsungs can schedule text messages which was really useful tbh I wish Apple had a similar feature

Pop Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Android doesn't have any features I want ? i don't dream of poverty

The question was what features differ, not which ones you want. OT: Android functionality and productivity slays iphone. As someone who works in the tech industry, I could never rely on an ios. On top of that; a serious lack of customization plus accessibility features just don't exist. And don't get me started on the lack of Apps that Apple seems to not care about. The disparity between useful and off the cuff Android apps vs. Apple is striking. Finally...Physically, the hardware offers an unmatched level of diversity and choice. Overall the simpleton "GP" nature of an iPhone is also a feature that is less than desirable. Edited September 4, 2022 by Afterglow
Samsara Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Android features iPhone lacks: 1. iPhone doesn’t show you the charge level or if it’s charging at all while it’s switched off. 2. No clipboard history. 3. No number row on the keyboard. 4. No AOD. 5. No USB OTG. 6. No split screen multitasking. 7. No Pro camera modes. 8. No sideloading apps. 9. No theme, custom font support. 10. But my main gripe is it lacks file management. Needs iTunes on PC everytime to upload music. Even when you download your music collection from a remote server, the stupid OS won’t allow you to play it unless it has gone some shitty crapple procedure. Same with ebooks. Books can’t access those files. Can’t save plane tickets locally or boarding passes as PDF format files as email attachments. Synching photos with a PC is a complete mess.

Possible with third party keyboards 4. It's coming on the next model 7. It is possible with third party camera apps 8. Possible 10. Ever since the files app was introduced it's also possible. For music you can't import directly in the native Apple Music app, but you can import audio files that you have downloaded into third party players. For books it has always been possible to directly import epub or pdf files into the Books app since launch. Saving PDFs is also possible and in the case of boarding passes, every airline also offers boarding pass that get directly stored in the iOS wallet app.
Before Today Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 My favorite feature on the Samsung Galaxy is the "secure folder" feature where every file that you don't want people to see on your phone is not only hidden, but it's locked. It requires your fingerprint, and it's inaccessible. Most iPhone users aren't aware of this feature, some Galaxy users themselves might not be aware of it either. But I find it useful. You can even change the name of the app when it appears on home screen and change the logo. So at first glance you can make it look like a jogging track app. What I like about iPhones: The camera aren't as shitty on Instagram, and they have the add photo as sticker thingy. It's a hassle on Android.
