Taylor Swift sits at her vanity, brushes her long golden locks, and picks up her phone to press record on a simple TikTok video. She stares blankly into the camera, looking directly into the souls of the hungry, poor, and sleepless individuals that are begging her even just a crumb of music to sustain their being. They stay up every night (since 2020) in fear of a surprise announcement from their queen and now, Taylor has taken that to the next level and crushed their very will to go on living, or to even stay up past 10pm.

 

Tree Paine sets down a small machine full of balls with the same number painted onto all 13 of them, and signals to Taylor that the video has begun recording. Taylor smirks and says “welcome to midnights mayhem with me. We will be leaving it up to fate decide the ninth song title you all will be given.”
 

Olivia meows, speaking up for the legions of fans who want a lead single. Meredith meows, speaking up for those that want just small snippets of sound or descriptions of song subjects, influences, or producers. Benjamin Button meows, telling the other two cats to shut up and be grateful for they are in the presence of our Lord and Saviour Swift.

 

The ball drops out of the machine and Taylor grabs it and pretends to be shocked. She lifts the red phone that doubles as a microphone, ready to make the announcement. It’s funny, the red of the telephone almost matches the bloodshed that the 23 days of this TikTok rollout has caused to her warring fanbase. She wraps the coil around her neck just to confuse the **** out of us all more than she already has for the last eight videos, and unabashedly whispers “Track Four: Josephine Von TrappenSlutten.”
 

The video transmission ends. The all too familiar sounds of battle that always roar across the lands immediately following Midnights song title reveal can be heard in the hills of ATRL, the valleys of Twitter, and the oceans of TikTok. Defenders of track titles versus lead single believers. The immovable object versus the unstoppable force. A tale as old as time and yet still with ever a tragic ending.
 

How long must the fanbase go on fighting amongst each other while Taylor sits idly by in her castle upon a throne of unreleased snippets, production credits, and song descriptions? Only time will tell. Until next Midnights Mayhems, I bid you all farewell.

Well I can’t see the numbers on the balls, but if it’s truly “fate based” then the tracks that were revealed before video #3 would have been removed from the machine and there would have only been 11 balls left. Instead, we know she’s starting each video with all 13 balls, filming each individual release, and deciding which videos to release in what order.
