What's going on with the Kid LAROI? Did he drop the bag?

So the kid LAROI was being pushed as a sort of Bieber esque urban/pop crossover with the Juice WRLD association, clearly a writing camp, "studio vocalist" industry product, kind of a younger less intimidating and tatted up Post Malone for the Gen Z (or is Gen Alpha now?) tweens. They threw a lot of **** at the wall and then they came out with "Without You", the kind of song that sounded like an immediate smash and had probably been passed around A&R teams for a while. It didn't *quite* take off on its own so they added the Miley remix and that seemed to do the job as it zoomed into the Top 10.

Then hot on the heels of that came "Stay", another writing camp slice of pop perfection that had probably been heavily contested behind the scenes. Charlie Puth must've creamed himself when he came up with that hook. A true one-listen-smash wonder that perfectly fit into the evergreen 80s synthpop sound. They added Bieber probably because Scooter Braun was manuevering it behind the scenes but it also seemed like an acknowledgement that no one really knows or cares who the Kid LAROI is so we need a bit of real starpower. That smashed ridiculously hard as we know.

So then they released "Thousand Miles", yet another perfect pop yet utterly faceless single just like the above two, this time sounding like a clone of Post Malone, great hook, radio friendly, etc. Clearly the expectation was that the above two hits would've led to interest in the Kid SOLO as opposed to playing co-lead to millennial superstars who are actually famous like Miley and Justin.

And yet the song came and went, sitting at a rather paltry 132M on Spotify streams despite radio giving it a real push. No word of a follow-up or a debut album.

Has a new industry darling writing camp type artist had two big hits and still not released a proper debut album yet? His career is very strange. It's giving money laundering teas.

-He ugly

- his music is terrible outside his singles.

-no talent

his biggest songs were written by other people who have talent  like for example Charlie puth with stay.

Your definitely wrong about a lot of things here.  He’s not as big of an industry plant as your trying to make it seem.  If you don’t know what your talking about don’t just assume.  This isn’t to say he doesn’t have industry support behind him though.  They saw something they could work with and jumped at it.

OT:  stay is still smashing lol, it’s probably not a good thing for his overall career in hindsight

Charlie didn’t write a single lyric for Stay.  He did the beginning piano

this whole essay :deadbanana:are you that bothered by him?

I don't know what's up with these young artists tho, Olivia and now him seem to not want to bank on the success they had last year. Maybe they're just to busy touring but we need the new music tbh

nothing, you're thinking too much

he was just lucky and got a random hit with Without You and then again with Stay (even tho this was also in big part due to Justin). he just wasn't able to build a base because people were only interested in his two singles and not his full albums so really his only choice is to just drop lots of catchy singles and hope that one of them catches on again

He isn’t bothered lol. He seems content with just travelling, touring and releasing the occasional song. Plus, his gf is hot asf

and not sure what's wrong with him not dropping a proper album yet. he released a mixtape in 2020 which made him blow-up and his label milked for all it's worth and now he's announced his debut album for 2022. the lead single flopped which is probably why his label is reluctant to release it. nothing out of the ordinary

Stay is still very strong at the moment. It’s still doing great and I hear it everywhere.

He needs a different haircut & better styling.

He also did the chorus melody.

+ The piano riff is the hook and that's the most important part along with the beat.

OT: Terrible music (outside Stay) , Awful vocal tone + sheep vibrato , no personality/charisma.

This, as if Miley had any power at this point for anyone to try adding her to a song for success :rip:

He won't be missed.

Knowing his background and where he grew up, it’s almost a miracle that he even achieved the height of international success that he did, regardless of how fleeting.

My understanding is that he’s still touring & doing his thing. He’s harmless, humble & has bops. Good for him.

No charisma, horrible vocals. He just got lucky with Stay.

They're probably another one or two hit wonder that simply had their moment. Some of these 2020 artists or TikTok artists aren't sticking around.
