i was gonna say, the entire franchise isn't really known for having deep dramatic characters or complicated emotional arcs...

I actually feel this one has characters way lore fleahed out than 2013, besides MIA those characters sucked

For real!  I love all the movies in the Evil Dead franchise but not for its in depth layered characters :dies:  Evil Dead Rise probably had the most character development of all of them tbh

The CGI here was probably not polished because this was originally going to be a straight to HBO Max movie :michael:

It's smashing and people are loving it :jonny2:

I enjoyed this

Definitely the bloodiest film I've seen this year so far

2013 is scarier

this one has zero jump scares

Maybe I need to rewatch but it was just fine to me. Loved the opening and expanding the lore as well as the hallway scene before the survivors got into the elevator but it's probably my least favorite in the series. Excited for at least one more movie to come though.

This was good. Wasn’t very scary but it was creepy as hell. Camera work was excellent as well. Not sure if I liked it better than the 2013 one tho. But both are great.

Evil Dead franchise still going strong 42 years later which is amazing.

Solid opening. I think it'll do even better on streaming.

^Sums up my thoughts perfectly. It's generic but in the most creative and best possible way. Haven't felt this way about a mainstream horror film since the first Conjuring :duca:

Final rating: 8.5/10

Liked this but a step down from the 2013 film. Most overrated 2023 film so far :celestial5:

Yeah, the 2013 version is way better, but this was fun as well :gaycat2:

I was so excited for this but it ended up being so...mediocre? There was literally no reason for this to be an Evil Dead movie :rip:,  it lacked the charm and comedy undertones that made the original franchise so beloved. Cool production value, setting, make up and gore but that doesn't make it a good Evil Dead movie. I kept thinking about Smile while watching and how much more effective it was as a horror movie.

Any chance we will get another one sooner than the 2013 one? Also we rewatched the 2013 one and it is still far superior.

But I enjoy them all greatly. :clap3:
