Latinos Extremely racist towards black coworkers

This is not surprising in the least, even though clueless Twitter users like to act as if only white people are racist.

POC AND White Latinos throw the N-word like it's nothing, they don't really measure the pejorative level of some racial words because there's no culture/education about that.

I am brown and latino people call me N*gro all the time :rip:

In Latin America racism is almost normalized, colorism is so integrated within society that no one makes a huge deal out of it.

If you travel a lot within latam and US, the current racism of whites is insignificant compared to what people in latin america say to each other.

I also must say that people aren’t sensitive or don’t care at all.

Is not right but people are more relaxed about it.

Exactly, it's like the racist, awful words mean **** to them :rip:

It's not right but I don't see what could be the alarm call for people to stop using those slurs.

Not surprised or uncommon.

and you wonder why so many machista/sexist/racist/homphobic latinos are turning republican..... because THE GOP is normalizing this. the party of 'family values"

Worrying is not going to resolve ****, all latam needs a revolution to reset their entire system and get equal access to education to fight these kind of views.

But you are contributing sooooooo much by expressing your worrisome in a pop culture forum.

So congrats on getting worried I guess.

The fact that you think you are daring to be holier than thou for being apathetic towards racism :deadbanana4: :deadbanana4:

I’m not being apathetic, I’m just describing the situation how it is.

No one cares there, because the lack of education and the lack of media awareness of the problem in the media. A huge problem with those governments.

The problem is a lot bigger and being outraged on twitter or online forums doesn’t do ****.

Sis, no one is saying being “outraged” is the solution. But it at least points towards some kind of acknowledgment, versus you perpetually shrugging your shoulders :deadbanana4:

Context matters and people in here are overlooking it when talking about latam culture.

The US is not the world.

Not surprising that the colonizers are trying to divide POC and impose their US-centric views on latinos as soon as they become worthless to Democrats.

Interesting change of title from the source.

But anyway, who would have thought that people from all ethnicities can be ignorant?

Unfortunately anti-black prejudice is the norm among Latinos of all (except, obviously, black) races.

Wbk, many Latinos are hella racist towards Black people, or really any dark skinned people. Growing up, we're told to wear hats and sunscreen, etc not to avoid cancer, but to avoid getting "too dark", just as an example.

That being said, this is not an excuse to treat Latinos as a racist monolith to further prejudices, especially from Caucasian white parties or other (often equally racist) non-BIPOC groups. :cm:

I'm not surprised, here in Brazil I would say we made a lot of progress in the last maybe 20 years. Racism is a unbailable criminal offense, and blatant racism is definitely not deem ok and at least in the places I've never witnessed it. In fact, as someone who has lived in the US I think racism is def more prevalent in the US or at least it feels that way and racial tensions are more palpable, same as Europe.

But the article should at least get the word right. Is there no Hispanic person to proof read it in the LA Times? I mean translating a word apparently used pejoratively for gays as the n word :deadbanana4:

Not some people on this thread using this to make generalizations about latin people and even our culture (like the person saying latinos want to be black when it's convenient ignoring that millions of latinos are indeed black, to give just one example)

When it comes to US, yes there are tension between POC and black american people, but it come from both ways. Just like there are latinos being racist against Black people, there are black people openly xenophobic and racist against latinos.

What really should be discussed is how the environment and politics manage to make minorities fight and lose strenght in the process while white people stay at the top.

Exactly. It's like how the American people of both major political parties in the US fight all the time, not realizing that the greatest enemy is the establishment and the filthy rich.

The people should come together, instead of being pitted against one another in fights.

And there are reports of black people being racist towards latinos

Racism can come from every group

So interesting to see Latinos being reclassified as white. I’m sure by the end of the decade Asians will be there too

Wait. So they didn't even know what "mayate" meant yet just randomly assumed it was a racial slur? Huh? :deadbanana2:

Also not to excuse their actions but at least here in Mexico most people don't know what the n-word actually means and the history behind it, they think it means homie or something like that because rappers use it in songs all the time :michael: the girl calling that man a monkey was definitely racist tho.

Omg I literally hate it here :deadbanana4: this is exactly the problem and why I will never step foot in Mexico and am actively trying to get out of North America.

OT: black people will literally always be at the bottom of the chain. Racism experienced from every direction, constantly looked down upon. Never being able to hide in plain sight. It's so dangerous being black and it's EXTREMELY sad.

White people and Latino have always not been fans of black people and usually align with each other as far as politics, racial views, etc. Let's be honest here this is because so many in those communities can lean completely right
