Dula Peep Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 So... he's trying to help people and the far lefties are upset about it? How unsurprising.

Communion Posted August 20, 2022 Author Posted August 20, 2022 Just now, Timber said: You know homeless people move to California because its better to live it California and be homeless than to live in a shitty state and be homeless. But... there's also migration towards richer European nations from poorer European nations? The idea that homelessness is a product of simply being wealthier and excuses California's policy failures is not factually accurate. It doesn't address that California edges out ahead of nearly every other developed nation in the world, even France. It is only beat out, when it comes to unhoused people per 10,000, by Slovakia. Hawaii and New York State also have worse rates of unhoused people than Slovakia. If California is the world's fifth-biggest economy, how come it can't find a way to address homelessness without institutionalization?

It locks people into being controlled directly by the state, except they don't have millions of dollars and fans to hire a team of attorneys and get out of it. However, since the state is only ever going to *lose* money by taking control of these people (a reverse Britney situation), it should incentivize the state to rehabilitate people and release them. If this is passed, we'll see what actually happens. I would assume the worst by default tho. @OP I don't really think most SF and LA area residents care at this point, it's been a growing problem for almost two decades and they're fed up. They just want them gone, no matter how unethical this proposed coercion may be. I would love to see how much this could cost vs actually building housing for the homeless.

A conservatorship that takes away peoples basic human rights, and now homeless people won't even be able to afford to get out of it or fight it, is NEVER a good thing.

beautiful player Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Oh no, that's awful. We ought to vote Republican in the mid-terms, to prevent this plan to come to fruition!

Protocol Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Translation: they're panicking about the homelessness problem in California potentially turning the state Republican in elections as people have finally had enough of Democrats, and instead of tackling the root issues of homelessness they propose an inhumane "solution" that is basically kidnapping people and locking them up.
