Beyoncé - "SUMMER RENAISSANCE"

To me it seems like just nonsense negativity. Sure, say what you'd prefer and why, but there's a lot of "she is so stupid" and exaggerated responses. Perhaps I'm taking them at face value rather than just silly hyperbole but it doesn't seem to be very fruitful, becasuse complain as you wish, there'll be no change. Did the meltdowns and name-calling in January, March and May make the album come any faster? Did the meltdowns about no BMS music video make the video come out or more promo happen?

If complaining is cathatric, well then I'm sorry for cutting in, but it's also a bit frustrating as well for the rest of us to be a near-constant state of complaint no matter what or how amazing a work we literally JUST got a week ago.

And I do disagree with decisions from a marketing perspective but it doesn't result in anger because at this point I'm very much appreciative of the way she side-steps normal pop-star conventions and to me its thrilling that she is doing it her way. At some point we need to realize our fave is NOT here to get easy hits. As long as the content I get is good, I don't need to spend my time deriding choices. If it were up to me, BMS would have come with a video and a performance. That didn't happen. Why get angry about it? Even for a minute? SUMMER RENAISSANCE is not the single I'd have chosen either. I still love the song so beyond just acknowledging it's a left-field choice or even not a good choice from the perspective of current streaming numbers, why go out of my way to complain?

BREAK MY SOUL to SUMMER RENAISSANCE is a good thematic combo anyway.

:deadbanana4:

Listen, people are just projecting what they want to be the next single and jokingly dragging her. It's not that deep.

maybe they'll release Summer Renaissance to pop snd Church Girl to urban as kinda 'bridge' singles while Break My Soul is still high and then release Cuff It as the final single to every format at the same time, before Act II

That’s what they SHOULD do!

When the film drops in 3weeks its not going to matter whats a single anyway, the GP will decide and be exposed to most of the songs

I know it's not deep but this isn't the first time the Hive has over-exaggerated their displeasure despite being one of the most well-fed (quality-wise) bases in pop history. There's always a complaint, and maybe just as an optimistic person it gets annoying but like...this is a legendddddddddddddd doing legend thingsssssssss let her do whatever the heck she wants she's earned not having to do whatever the public wants of her.

So... Cuff It has:

Most spins per station on Pop (2.489 vs 2.298 for SR)

Most spins on Rhythmic and R&B

Most added on Urban

The choice is obvious :skull:

yes! this too.

i hope that the visual album is on YouTube too vs. a streaming platform, and that they find a way for each video to transition so you can watch it as a playlist but feel like 1 long video, meanwhile each vdieo can be seperated.

Listening to the album I kind of get the feeling we won't be having a spoken word narration this time as the songs already fit so nicely as one continuous block.

Its a good song, but not a good decision for a single imo. Most of the samples used in SR are from really well known songs too meaning people immediately associate it to original songs.

Cuff It and Alien Superstars were such obvious choices. Especially AS

Cuff It is an obvious single and Alien Superstar is lowkey going viral on social media, why? :toofunny3:

The song is good though but not really a single

I’m so sick of Giselle’s ass.

There are several great single choices on this album and she doesn’t go with any of them. :deadbanana2:

ANYWAY I think SUMMER RENAISSANCE is really the thesis of the entire album.

It synthesizes the idea of taking the old and making it new again, of referencing the past to hold it UP, of celebrating the joy taught to us from generations before.

The instrumental sample of I Feel Love in the intro is given and then promptly interpolated. It's a magic moment where she shows us her blueprint. And the lyrical sample in the chorus expands on that, allowing it to exist outside the confines of the song itself, and taking us to a higher plane, perhaps one where Donna Summer is now, to ethereal pop perfection.

I Feel Love is perhaps the most important song in defining the sound of "pop" as we know it, and Beyoncé's use feels as honorary and respectful as it does elating and surprising...transitioning out of the word "dance" into something more like a quote than a sample.

And did anyone else catch that you can hear Donna Summer herself singing after the first use of the "Oh I feel good" that Beyoncé sings? It's slightly in the background, giving the sample-as-quote a citation of origin.

It's pure brilliance imo.

SR is one of her best songs ever and sort of the centerpiece of the album, despite its placement, but not a single

Alien Superstar is the standout. Cuff It is the most radio friendly but AS has a freshness and adventurousness that CI lacks.

CI is the "Sorry" and AS is the "Hold Up"

I love it. The sample is perfect

Posted

Cuff it is just sitting there I guess :rip:

Yawn… cuff it is so predictable. Taste won! Now, this better not mean Alien Superstar lost….

I refuse to believe they're not pushing the one song on the album that was clearly designed to be a radio smash (Cuff It)

Best next choice after Cuff It(which was clearly MADE for radio and now they're not releasing it???)
