Ewan Chaos Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 My fave from the album, but I wish she picked Cuff It instead
Destiny Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 Good choice I hope it smashes CUFF IT should be sent to Rhythmic/ Urban/ Urban AC and ALIEN SUPERSTAR will catapult itself to the top of the charts due to its viral nature

It doesn't feel like she's trying to redo the iconic melody in a new way to make up for making a new iconic melody, in the context of the album and its concept, it feels so right, like she's putting a footnote at the end of the album about her inspirations: DONNA SUMMER, Disco Queen... also the way that she floats into the sampled lyrics acknowledges that it's almost a seperate part of the song itself, she transcends from what she's saying into a new plane and that to me is SUCH magic. this

The streaming era allows you to know just what songs resonate with the public and those two songs are AS and Cuff It. This is the thread to talk about the single and it is appropriate to talk about how bad that here. She also tried to push Church Girl as the 2nd single and positioned it at the top of all those playlists just for it to fail short and by a long shot to the other two who did not receive half as much of a push. SR was pushed in just as many playlists in Europe and got out streamed by the same two songs with barely any push. Feeling that the album is a masterpiece and thinking her team is awful for choosing the wrong singles is not mutually exclusive. And what if it flops? Well the era is cut way short and some of us don't want that again. We had a whole decade of that because of things like this. So let us voice whatever we want, you have never ever NOT agree with a decision she takes.
JoeAg Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 Cuff It would smash like nobody's business, I hope it's considered as maybe a two simultaneous singles deal where the more impactful one will be eventually promoted more... Summer Renaissance is still a good song though!
Hivy Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 I am ok with this beying a single tbh. Like everyone else said, i would prefer Cuff It or AS but this is good too.
Dula Peep Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 I'm sure this was picked as the second single before the album even dropped. And it makes sense, to me, it's the most radio friendly song on the album besides "BMS", CUFF IT is also radio friendly... but screams Levitating ripoff to me, not that new sounding or exciting as a single.
Destiny Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 52 minutes ago, BGKC said: It’s not a bad choice, just unfortunate. The fact that it’s one of the more blatantly sampled tracks makes it fell less original as opposed to Cuff it or Alien Superstar. Alien Superstar can wait for October I tho ig, it has Halloween smash written all over it.. wait- you might be onto something. I hope ALIEN can float around the streaming songs top 25 until then
collin Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 Y’all need to relax. She needs to save Cuff It for later when it can have its own moment. It’s smart to do other things in the meantime that are riskier.

It does not give Levitating whatsoever, besides in that it is an obvious smash that should be saved for a second wind later on in the era.

This is a great song but clearly not the best choice for the next single and it’s also a bit too early for a new single for Pop radio when BMS hasn’t reached the Top 10 yet.

Sure, say what you'd prefer and why, but there's a lot of "she is so stupid" and exaggerated responses. Perhaps I'm taking them at face value rather than just silly hyperbole but it doesn't seem to be very fruitful, becasuse complain as you wish, there'll be no change. Did the meltdowns and name-calling in January, March and May make the album come any faster? Did the meltdowns about no BMS music video make the video come out or more promo happen? If complaining is cathatric, well then I'm sorry for cutting in, but it's also a bit frustrating as well for the rest of us to be a near-constant state of complaint no matter what or how amazing a work we literally JUST got a week ago. And I do disagree with decisions from a marketing perspective but it doesn't result in anger because at this point I'm very much appreciative of the way she side-steps normal pop-star conventions and to me its thrilling that she is doing it her way. At some point we need to realize our fave is NOT here to get easy hits. As long as the content I get is good, I don't need to spend my time deriding choices. If it were up to me, BMS would have come with a video and a performance. That didn't happen. Why get angry about it? Even for a minute? SUMMER RENAISSANCE is not the single I'd have chosen either. I still love the song so beyond just acknowledging it's a left-field choice or even not a good choice from the perspective of current streaming numbers, why go out of my way to complain? BREAK MY SOUL to SUMMER RENAISSANCE is a good thematic combo anyway. Edited August 3, 2022 by swissman
Ice Cream Skies Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 Wow, I was definitely not expecting this song to be a single, or even the second single. A Coney Island tea.
stjosephprey4us Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 All Up In My Head and Heated are right there but okay

swissman Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 (edited) the thing is, she could name any song from the album and i'd be like WOW YES THAT IS A GOOD SINGLE CHOICE because all the songs are amazing. some maybe are less radio-friendly due to their format, but any would make for iconic singles. that's the issue i guess when you make a great album from start to finish, nothing is clear, and again, I'm mostly interested in Beyoncé's vision for the project, not a sequence of singles that are chosen by being the most streaamed to least streamed songs during week of release. Anyway, I prefer this over cuff it because it actually keeps a consistent rollout for the album... I hate it when back to back singles sound like they belong to different bodies of work and thats what BMS/Cuff it would sound next to each other. At least Summer Rennaisance can get played in clubs which I think is a key theme for this album. And it'll transition nicely into the other singles
50thStateofMind Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 SR is the better song anyway...hopefully theyʻre sending both to radio
