This is weird.

He looks well fed for someone actively engaged in a war. I’m glad he has the choice to feast on the finest foods life has to offer and live in extravagance while his people are left to rot and fend for themselves. :gaycat:

And the way some users in here are playing this war down and trying to make it about race... yes it's a shame that atrocities in Africa and the Middle East don't get as much coverage, but this is a nuclear superpower invading a sovereign country with a great deal of geopolitical significance :rip: It's in everyone's best interest in the long run for Ukraine to win

not everything is about identity politics, get off of twitter for a while please

This 100%.

The oddest thing about the "whataboutism" argument is that those people never cared about what was happening in countries like Yemen until the Ukraine invasion happened. :rip: Like they're only using those conflicts to downplay what's happening in Ukraine.

All of these words to somehow justify that my life and my opinion as a Ukrainian doesn't matter :skull: We as a nation chose to side with the West, no demands necessary. Russia was the one that invaded Ukraine, not the other way around, no matter how many ways you try to twist it. There is a reason why Eastern Europe is the biggest critic of Russia. Not even gonna bother dignifying this with a longer response because this post is HELLA offensive.

"Just bow down to Russia already, you're inconveniencing ME" :skull:

YOU don't have to bow down to Russia, that is NOT what I said. What I am saying is that hundreds of millions of people in Europe and North America did NOT choose for their governments to destroy their standard of living via sanctions imposed on Russia and going into hundreds of billions of dollars of debt by providing weapons. Fight your OWN war. It is insanely entitled to expect that people who have NOTHING to do with your country destroy their economies in order to save you. It is NOT our responsibility.

I feel bad for Ukrainians that they're getting invaded. It sucks that their politicians insisted on becoming part of NATO when Russia saw this as a threat. But I do not see why we 10,000 miles away need to suffer for it as well. If this is harsh, then I'm sorry but the world is harsh. That's life.

Your country is being used as a pawn in another chapter of world politics power struggles between two larger, infinitely more powerful nations. USA demanded Ukrainian leadership try to become part of NATO, knowing it could provoke this reaction by Putin. It did. It sucks, I'm sorry. But I do not see why all fo Europe and North America need to destroy the standard of living of their citizens for a war that has nothing to do with them. The history of the world is one of conquest. It sucks, but it is what it is. There is no reason why hundreds of millions need to suffer in order to fund an unwinnable, pointless war of attrition.

:deadbanana2:

I can't believe you actually typed all that and then decided "yeah, people should definitely see this"

No doubt that all these pathetic people spreading Russian propaganda would've done the same thing for Hitler. Truly shocking how disgusting this post is.

Also, it’s clear none of you guys know any actual Ukrainians. Everyone is loving this photoshoot and happy to see a major magazine like Vogue talk about Ukraine. But continue to speak for us, ATRL :skull:

Yeah, most of these people are privileged enough to never have witnessed any kind of conflict so they can go out and pretend this is some kind of video game where they can pick sides :rip:

It is grossly anti-semitic to compare Hitler, who massacred 6 million Jews, to this invasion of Ukraine where less than 6,000 civilians have died. And totally nonsensical. I'm not sure what Russian propaganda you're referring to. Was I supposed to get a cheque in the mail? Or is that the only thing you know how to say to someone that has independent thinking and doesn't parrot whatever the TV says? I should not be surprised considering you have Katy Perry, a children's artist, in your avatar....

And some of us HAVE lived through conflict, and do NOT want to ever be in one again, and are very nervous at our governments prodding a nuclear power like Russia by arming the country they're at war with.

Putin is an ugly dictator and a homophobe and he may be insane. Which is all the more reason not to provoke him.

Tacky, distasteful and gross, at least everyone is seeing his true colors, now.

the stupidity in this thread.

if being in Vogue is what is needed to upkeep the awareness among the masses about the ongoing WAR then why not. not sure why the conversation is suddenly being turned against the oppressed. it's not like this was his most important gig in the past months or weeks, i'm sure it's quite the contrary.

Them acting like the Zelenskyys posing for simple photos in the bunkered up Parliament building in Kyiv (where they've been since the beginning of the war and were nearly assassinated in) is the same as a full on pop girl photoshoot :deadbanana2: some of these girls are getting a little too comfortable with their hatred for Ukraine and it's getting weird :deadbanana2:

my question is when did the Ukraine hate start, it seems so sudden to me :toofunny2: I generally have avoided Ukraine threads on ATRL because most users here aren't particularly intelligent or informed

Like did they forget, for example, that Mr Zelenskyy rejected offers of safe passage out of Ukraine when the war started :rip: Most Americans seem to have lost interest in the war after a month or so, so getting on the cover of Vogue keeps the situation relevant. If it were a glamour shoot then that would probably be weird, but the photos are obviously meant to evoke the strife of war. Not sure why people see this as tacky when he's literally been living the war among his compatriots this whole time? It's his war so it's not like he's appropriating it

Bizarre, but I haven't really seen this backlash anywhere else. Reddit seemed to think it was really cool of them to do. ATRL is fun for the occasional kii but the stupidity here is frustrating when it comes to actual serious topics

I’m sorry but it’s giving this from another VOGUE shoot with actual celebrities

So inappropriate and ill advised. An interview with a big headline on the cover would’ve been enough. We didn’t need an Annie Leibovitz photoshoot. Tacky asses.

Maybe you missed the Time cover story from April?

Where was all the backlash then? This photo was also taken in Kyiv, where he was commanding the army and fighting for Ukraine's survival. Do you think it's suddenly inappropriate for him to keep Ukraine in the media around the world? April 19th was less than two months into the war. Now we are 6 months into the war, and as this thread shows, people are suddenly hostile at the thought of helping Ukraine. No matter your opinion of Zelenskyy, Russia is still killing people every single day. He is doing a damn good job to make sure the world doesn't forget it.

It was the comparing of Zelenskyy to the literal genocidal maniac Milosevic in this thread for me :deadbanana2: not even worms, PEBBLES for brains :deadbanana2:

Are you? You've been very vocally anti-Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion. Maybe you want to go live in Chechnya?
