The corrupt man who ilegalized EVERY leftist political party ended up being an opportunist who gives zero f*cks about Ukraine? Color me surprised :mazen:

First the Grammys, then Eurovision and now this. The PR propaganda is too much

You mean the pro-Russian, collaborationist parties? Literally the only source on this is TASS, a Russian government news source. The tankies have really overrun this site, omg :skull:

If he didn't care about Ukraine then why did he choose to stay in Ukraine when several countries offered him safe passage out of the country? Why does he visit the front lines of the conflict to support Ukrainian soldiers? Why does he actively post on social media to keep people informed about Ukraine?

The only people here who give zero fucks about Ukraine are the ones who haven't been speaking up about the conflict at all (or even actively downplayed the conflict/spread Russian propaganda) and are now suddenly up in arms about this photoshoot for some reason.

I wish you all were as outraged about the video of a Russian soldier castrating a captured and bound Ukrainian on camera and uploading it onto the internet as you are about the President posing for a photo.

And yes, that happened.

Spoiler

Need any more convincing why your “tax dollars” are going towards helping Ukraine?

He is nothing but a money hungry clout chaser! Imagine doing a photo shoot while your country is at war? And then using the war aesthetics for the photoshoot lol

Absolutely tasteless and disgusting and you know what’s more disgusting is the sudden support from the entire world for a white country, when this same world has been pretending not to see what’s happening in certain places in the world where they’ve been living like this not for a couple of months, but for over half a century. I mean I’m glad they’re getting support, but the picking and choosing is appalling to say the least...

……so they deserve to not be helped and blown up out of existence because they’re a white country is what you’re saying? :biblio:

some people find the audacity to defend this man is crazy! after he did that lame speech at the Grammys i was already like,,, this is some weird clout ****

Using literal war aesthetics for a photoshoot for a Fashion magazine is just shameful. Vogue should actually be blamed for glamorizing war.

This is such nonsense. The West and United States are firmly with Ukraine. Western ignorance is directed towards Palestine, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and any places where the population isn't majority blonde haired and blue eyed. The self victimization is hilarious.

If the West is firmly with Ukraine then why are you trying to use whataboutism to deflect from and downplay the war in Ukraine? :skull:

Am I representative of the Western opinion? Are Russians who are against Putin and the Ukraine invasion representative of Russian opinion? So I'm not sure what your little post is supposed to prove. Just more nonsense.

Reminder that Ukraine and Russia bad/authoritarian/corrupt. Thus, calling "Russia bad/authoritarian/corrupt" "Russian propaganda" is the DEFINITION of delusional.

Tone deaf and ridiculous. Some of you clowns in here talking about "raising awareness" when we Americans (This was for US Vogue correct?) are already HYPER AWARE of this war seeing as our economy has completely tanked, gas prices are sky high, inflation is hitting records, cost of living is becoming unlivable for most. You go to a random ass store, you drive down a street and you see billboards "Pray for Ukraine" and on top of that our country is giving like 40B+ worth of aid and help to Ukraine.

This is ridiculous and unnecessary. I feel for the people, but to tank our own economy to do so is WILD, especially given how little America does for black and brown people across the world who suffer from worse things.

Well said. If Ukraine were a country of black and brown people, Biden/the US wouldn't be supporting them so much and would instead be treating them like Syria/Palestine/Somalia/Ethiopia/Haiti/Yemen/Iraq/Libya etc

And let me add the word recession

Once again, certain ATRLers running into this thread to embarrass themselves. Zelensky is easily one of the current most respected leaders in the world. He already shown his bravery by leading Ukrainian soldiers. No matter what he does, his bravery was noted by many.

I'm glad most of the American people are waking up.

I remember a thread just a few months ago where some of us simply made the factual observation that inflation had already taken over Americans' interest, that a majority of Americans *months ago* shifted from supporting Ukraine over fixing the economy to prioritizing the economy over foreign aid, etc. and that a shift was coming.

And the reaction from the typical suspects was to use snarl terms like "tankie" that only internet neo-con wannabes who get their news from Radio Free America and David Frum use. :skull:

Well I guess most of the internet is now full of tankies because most people find this distasteful and have already been turned off from the kind of means the Ukrainian government has taken over the last few weeks, be it insulting figureheads to threatening to blacklist popular figures for "incorrect thought".

And this is all before touching on the fact that the mass media at large has contorted itself to try and erase what is literal decades of literal nazism in both Ukraine and the Baltics. This is more offensive than their cover:

It's one thing as a government to use what is undeniably a tragedy and the evils of another country to downplay and rewrite history or other unsavory details of your country's literal existence out of the past, but it's another to do that and lash out at those propping up your defense and acting as though the world is simply not doing enough and those prioritizing diplomacy over even more shipments of advance weaponry are "bad people with incorrect thought" who belong on political blacklists ALL WHILE posing for the cover of uhh Vogue. :skull:

I know we're not coming for Bandera when there are Stalin and Mao stans in this thread :skull: tankies will be tankies

Speaking of the USSR:

Quote

Ukrainian nationalists who worship statues, banners and monuments to Holocaust mass-murderer Stepan Bandera are inherently far-right racists, even when they dress up as centrists for the benefit of CNN. Anyone who has visited Ukraine at length knows that the Bandera-worshippers regard Jews, Russians and Poles (among others) as inferior beings whose existence is an unwelcome stain on the desired ethnic purity of the nation-state. Precisely in the spirit of 1930s Aryanism, in fact, Banderism in fact “gave them” pure(ish) ethnic enclaves in some of Ukraine’s west.

Quote

But these are not American values. These are not values worth fighting for, even when they are invoked with the lame excuse of it being all just “against Russia,” as if this is a moral license to abrogate values. Russia’s misbehavior can and must be countered as a separate issue, not by giving succor to pro-Nazi forces whose attraction for us is that they are anti-Russia. Incidentally, this echoes the excuse offered for the Holocaust period itself with regard to the wiping out of races. One often hears that participation in the genocide of the Jewish civilian population was "part of what we had to do to get the Russian Communists out, because it’s what Hitler wanted, and we were sure that upon victory, Germany would restore our nation’s independence.”

Quote

Aside from the moral repugnance of linking worthy independence with genocide of a minority living in your country, it is of course utter historic nonsense. The East European Slavs and Balts were themselves slated for future extinction as their lands were to become the new eastern pleasure-grounds of the master race’s Reich. Had the Nazis won the war, there would have been no Latvia, Lithuania or Ukraine to become independent in 1991.

Pretending that any fashion magazine is going to be giving glowing tributes to Stalin or Ho Chi Minh tells me maybe Zelensky isn't the only one with a poor sense of navigating horrendously bad optics all on top of having an inability to stop making said optics worse. :toofunny3:

Ddd what does this even mean? Either the syntax is off or...

Are you just going to post these meaningless "reminders" ad nauseam without ever explaining anything, hoping that that is a sub for an actual argument? :skull:

This…is one of the most tone-deaf things I’ve seen all year. I didn’t believe this was real at first when I saw one picture on Twitter. It was too absurd. It almost looked like a photoshopped meme. Or something from an Onion story. When I saw the entire photoshoot, I was genuinely flabbergasted. Who thought this was a good idea? Vogue should be ashamed of themselves, yeah, but Zelensky is the real clown here. How embarrassing and disappointing.

What the hell? Calling out Ukraine for its corruption and authoritarianism is not "supporting Russia".

And to Phantom, my previous post wasn't that difficult to understand
