Elton John & Britney Spears - "Hold Me Closer"

Spears recorded the falsetto parts first, then the lines where she belts. Watt never had to ask her to do anything, and watched as she exacted her own high standards. “She kept going: ‘Nope, again, again, again.’” Then she had an “amazing idea”, he says. “She wanted to listen to the music a bunch of times and she started doing all her incredible ad libs that make the record so her. Tiny Dancer with her voice is special enough, but then she went through and did all these amazing runs.”

Once they had recorded, Spears was “incredibly specific” about how she wanted her vocals and levels mixed, he says. “She was really collaborative and had really good ideas about the production. She’s an expert in music to make you dance.”

THAT PART. :clap3:

They definitely removed a few of her ad libs but I will say they were kinda jarring/unpolished when I first listed to the demo! As time goes on you get used to them and kinda ignore how pitchy they were! No shade to the queen!

This version is a tad bit safer! It’s all ready getting great review!

For diehard Spears fans, or indeed anyone with a passing knowledge of one of the most distinctive pop vocalists of all time, hearing her sing again feels like a real moment (her last album was 2016’s Glory). As John’s heavily filtered vocals emerge from the fog, Spears unfurls a classic “ooh baby”, each crystal-clear syllable given the full quivering treatment. Throughout the song, her lively vocal trills and ad libs recall her full-bodied musical performances on Instagram, a place of refuge where she has been attempting to reclaim her public image and undo learned behaviours from years of control. On Hold Me Closer she seems keen to remind people she was a singer first: before pop fame, before controversy, before near-annihilation.

From the Guardian review 4.5 stars.

So joyous to get to experience this song in its final form today!

Perhaps they’ll surprise us with a remix featuring Britney’s lead vocals.

This is exactly what I want. A more club-focused Britney remix. It would be perfect to help it on the charts, too!

I'm basing on its hype in the US. If there's a huge anticipation just like the Minaj's freaky girl.

wait, 2nd listen and I kinda start seeing the appeal :jonny2:

it's a different flavour

So you guys were trolling? Britney still seems like the main singer, the only thing different from the leaked version are the initial ad libs.

The song is a bop and a half

The first verse would’ve sounded much better if Britney was solo instead of layering it with Elton.

Why is it still not available on Spotify?

Yeo, Britney is still the lead in the final version, even though they definitely changed the mixing for the official version, both Elton’s and Britney’s vocals sound more polished and balanced.

Elton had such sweet words for Britney in his interview and it’s great to know professional she was during the recording session, which is far from a surprise considering it’s something that everyone who works with her always point out.

No like it takes a minute but imagine it in the gayest of gay clubs, I feel like that’s a classic in the making like——

The vocal mixing on this is terrible. I can barely grasp what Britney is saying. It’s worse than Britney Jean :deadbanana4:
