LP54 Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 The upcoming “Game of Thrones” prequel, “House of the Dragon,” is slated to have less sex than its predecessor. According to showrunner Miguel Sapochnik, the new HBO Max series will “pull back” on the number of intimate scenes. Sapochnik — who also directed several episodes of “GoT” — will keep the scenes at bay, but won’t stay away from exploring the themes of sex and violence in the Targaryen family, he told the Hollywood Reporter. “If anything, we’re going to shine a light on that aspect,” Sapochnik said of the sexual assaults that often happened in the parent series. “Game of Thrones” aired on HBO from 2011 until 2019 and featured many sexually explicit plot lines including rape and incest. “You can’t ignore the violence that was perpetrated on women by men in that time. It shouldn’t be downplayed and it shouldn’t be glorified,” Sapochnik noted. He added that he and his co-showrunner Ryan Condal “carefully” and “thoughtfully” planned out the moments of sexual violence in the new series. Source: 'Game of Thrones' prequel 'House of the Dragon' to have less sex (nypost.com) Honestly I'm not mad at it. Game of Thrones could be excessive with nudity and sex at times especially in the first season. Having sex for the sake of shock in my opinion is just cheap. If it fits the story then I'm okay with it. If people want to see a bunch of naked people and ******* then go watch porn.
Feanor Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 I mean GOT itself also had barely any sex scenes in later seasons so this won't be that much of a deviation.
GraceRandolph Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Good, the original show was one big rape scene and was misogynistic as hell.
Saintlor Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Why was the 2010s decade so obsessed with sex scenes?
Johnny Jacobs Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 as if GOT had many to begin with i hope the story will be strong tho.. i worryit will be beautifully done but boring

est. in 90s Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 I'm actually shocked an HBO show is pulling back on gratuitous sex scenes since they are good for an over the top shock value type sex scenes, but I'm not mad about it either seeing as most sex scenes add nothing to the overarching storyline other than cheap shock value. It is rare when they are done well. Euphoria should take notes.
Hephaestus Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Good. We weren't watching for the sex scenes anyway.

Madonno Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Good One of my main complaints were the unnecessary sex scenes while we got the rushed finale.
mystery Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Good. This story has other areas of more importance with the two women at the very heart of the story.
Almodusa Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Why is it that when shows and movies want to show realism it’s often through sexual violence towards women Like yeah it’s realistic cuz that’s what happens but like…

Starkboy Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 I mean GOT was associated to sex scenes only for the first 2-3 seasons?

Thin White Duke Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Weird to point this out. Our culture has become so tame and conservative recently. Sex is part of life. Even a fantasy one. A huge part of life for that matter. It's weird to not show it. It's not a shock factor, it's just reality and just playing around it amd not actually showing it is making it even more stigmatized if anything.
DirtyPony87 Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Story-wise, it makes sense. The Dance of Dragons doesn’t have a ton of sex anyway, and most of it is incest among the Targaryen family anyway. 2 hours ago, GraceRandolph said: Good, the original show was one big rape scene and was misogynistic as hell. What’s funny about this is that most of the rape scenes in the show were actually consensual acts in the books. I don’t know why D&D REPEATEDLY turned those scenes into sexual assaults.
Guest Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Good, I hope this means sexposition will tone down as well. There were many unnecessary shots with women naked just to attract the male gaze.
