Butters Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 just came back from seeing this. super educational and interesting despite the lack of action. definitely drives home how consequential the bomb is and what it could mean for us as a species. the scene where he addresses the cheering crowd had me floored im hoping they put out new 70mm IMAX showings in mid august so i can rewatch 1
JungleJuice Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 I was able to sneak my freind into Oppenheimer with my regal unlimited. Just emailed him the tix and he loved it 😍
Mr. Duff Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Damn, that was an experience. The bomb successfully exploding, the speech, the questioning. THE CAST I cannot commend Cillian Murphy enough. He deserves Best Actor for that. Emily, Robert D, Jack Quaid, Florence are some of the few that I really remember because of how strong they were. Oh and also Josh Hartnett! He deserves to be recognised, I really got sucked in with his performance. He was amazing in the role. The movie is just so exhilarating, nerve-wracking, intense and emotional. I felt so many chills because I get to understand how you could create something super massive that could be used for negative reasons. 1
Puttanesca Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 Incredible film. The Trinity scene was NUTS. And don't even get me started on Cillian
John Slayne Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 finally saw this last night. it was great, i loved the visuals and the actors did amazing (special shoutout to emily blunt, best supporting actress awards would be deserved!) i will say however that some parts felt overdramatised, i'm guessing oppenheimer's life was actually not all that interesting so they had to exaggerate a bit. minor spoiler: Spoiler almost everything after the trinity and hiroshima/nagasaki scenes felt inconsequential and boring, i get that the security clearance drama was probably important to oppenheimer during his life but for me in the audience it just felt too low stakes after the atomic bomb
X~MoviePoP Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 Very confusing movie. Very boring at parts and felt too long. 6/10 2
Chiidish Posted August 8, 2023 Posted August 8, 2023 A masterpiece in so many ways, and the take on a war movie from the perspective of a scientist with THE most significant weapon ever created is alone to make this a stellar watch but all the various elements (nationalism, ideologies, advancement of science, politics, national security, the evils of war, the evils of man, globalization, history, philosophy, etc.) make this movie such a triumph.
mystery Posted August 8, 2023 Posted August 8, 2023 I can't stop listening to the score, the synths and strings in this are insane. 1

chiliam Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 (edited) Finally see the movie cause my country took too long to approve a war movie like this. It was good, but the 1st two hours are a bit back and forth, like they took too long to make that damn bomb. The aftetmath of the bomb is such a thrill though. Its a bit confusing for someone not good at memorize name like me lol. The score is clearly the highlight, it made the movie much more intense and keep the audience engage, we have our best score and best sound Oscar. Emily seems like a forgettable side character in the beginning, but she serve hard in those last scenes. A BSA nom is well deserved. Edited August 13, 2023 by chiliam
ATRL Moderator Ampersand13 Posted August 13, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted August 13, 2023 Finally watched this on Thursday on an IMAX screen I anticipated liking it but ultimately appreciating it as a cinematic triumph more than actually enjoying it. However, I ended up loving it just as much as appreciating the craftsmanship. Spoiler The only thing that I was ruminating on was the treatment of the female characters. Obviously this is a story about Oppenheimer, the atomic bomb, and should be about the people most involved. My issue was not that I felt like they needed to be better incorporated in the story or that they needed more screen time per se, just that they were kind of trite? Maybe on another viewing I'll try and pick up on more things, there was just so much to digest. Love love love the movie, this is truly just a small thing I was thinking about.
nathanspears Posted August 19, 2023 Posted August 19, 2023 Spoiler It was a good film, the severe lack of female characters is a bit grating and the two that are there aren’t treated well. It’s a white man fest. It’s also still very much a pro-American film which is to be expected. Technically it was fantastic of course. 1
Mr. Duff Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 It's still too far but is there a chance for 1B?
Alex21kw Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 Spoiler Finally saw this. It's definitely in Nolan's top 3 - I think the narrative structure might seem very confusing at first, but by the end of the movie you realise it's not really about how the story progresses in time but instead about Oppenheimer's character and how his personality gradually unfolds. It sort of reminded me of an impressionistic painting lol. The music, acting and script were stellar and the best in a Nolan movie. 1
Blade Runner Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 All the discourse about the sex in this movie and Florence's boobs. People truly are acting like full conservatives now. So dumb.

Grace Randolph spilled when she said Nolan can’t write good female characters I fear. Not sure if I agree about the movie being rah rah America-a though.
spiritboy Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Watched it last night. Good movie but it was too long for my taste, no matter how good is it, i have difficulty concentrating on movies after the 120th minute. The acting was great though and Cillian and Nolan deserve their flowers. 6.5/10
Eóghan Posted January 30 Posted January 30 the fact that I liked the movie when I saw it in theater last summer but a friend sent me this review to prove me that it's not a good movie and now it has completely fallen apart in my eyes it was an 8/10 but now it's a 5 1
