In terms of Oscar noms, I can see this being the most nominated film with:

Best Picture

Best Director

Best Actor (Murphy)

Best Supporting Actor (RDJ)

Best Supporting Actress (Blunt)

Best Adapted Screenplay

Best Cinematography

Best Film Editing

Best Original Score

Best Sound

Best Production Design

Best Visual Effects

The way I can already feel these are all locks and we are still in July :jonny5:

And if all these films actually delay it'll just be closer to potentially sweeping :fan:

Unfortunately, the more the films go on, the more Nolan's tics bore me. The use of the same codes no matter what the genre or subject of the film seems lazy to me. For this kind of dramatic film, the constant loud music, even in intimate scenes, drowns out the actors' performances.

Also, I find that I would have liked to have had a film just about the audience and the Senate hearing, my favourite part of the film and the ones I was really invested in. RDJ delivers an incredible performance and I was fully into it.

The first third of the film bored me slightly and I found that the pace wasn't always there. The Los Alamos part is a bit too rushed and the conclusion quick. Finally, I couldn't shake the feeling that Nolan was heightening the dramatic effect of certain events (which in the real story probably had no real impact or interest), probably because of the over-invasive soundtrack.

Very good cast though. I'm surprised that the film has been so well received by critics. B+

If this wins Best Score I’m going to fume. That was just so NOISY.

Clearly not impressed with the score (but tbh not a fan of Ludwig at all, one of the biggest recent hype mystery for me).

After a good night of sleep, I'll add that what bothered me with the movie is how un subtil and self-explanatory it was. I know it's a Nolan thing but for a movie like this it doesn't let any characters feel like they are actual humans (it works maybe for CBM or sci-fi but less for a biography). Oddly, I had more sympathy for Strauss' character than Oppie.

Just saw it and I don’t think I liked it. I didn’t hate it either and Im glad I experienced it on the big screen. It’s just that the movie had a very simple premise and when it ended, I was like yeah it’s over. Overall it was just an okay experience. The movie looked and sounded stunning tho. They deserve Oscars nominations in every category except Best Picture and Best Director.

only Nolan could make a biopic like a drama/thriller without me thinking about it being 3 hrs long:WAP:

Went and seen it and I really liked it. I wanted to LOVE it like I do almost all Nolan films, but it did drag a bit. But overall, it’s a very very very good movie and Nolan did it again :clap3: Florence Pugh was kind of a highlight

oh and both florence pugh and emily blunt are so MOTHER for all of their scenes :WAP:

This movie was fantastic.

I just saw it. I really enjoyed the film at first but there were so many pacing errors and it gradually fell apart for me, especially after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Took several naps, but it was alright.

Everyone at the theatre giggled when Freddie mercury appeared, truly the worst performance of the film.

I hate Cillian on almost everything or just simply ignore him, but this just took him to a whole new level, he should get best actor, and it would be amazing to see Emily getting it too. Actors go to extreme lengths to get that Christopher Nolussy and it pays off.

All the other actors also did amazing, the sex scenes weren't needed tho, and seeing a super skinny Cillian sitting naked with his legs crossed took me out for a moment :rip:

Spoiler

The suicide/not suicide ambivalent scene wasn't needed, it confuses you on a otherwise pretty straight forward movie.

The closing scene with Albert Einstein is a highlight, and flashing to a possible WWIII was chilling. I guess it was the only gci shot of the movie?

Also Cristopher Nolan movies NEVER fall apart on the third act, if you just don't have the attention span go watch some tiktoks or catch it on streaming.

Just got home from the cinema and whew :jonnycat:

Cillian killed this role, just amazing. I really liked Emily too. Nolan didn't disappoint with this one.

Also, never saw cinema this packed, especially on a second week.

I saw it a week ago, and I'm still thinking about it. Especially the sound effects and score. I would never have thought a historical drama would have me feeling so tense with sound alone. Everyone gave fantastic performances (Matt Damon being a slight exception; I feel he gave his typical performance). As of now, the movie deserves to sweep come awards season.

finally saw it yesterday, great film that's been lingering in my head and my thoughts ever since + inspired me to read up everything about the creation of the atomic bomb. cillian was so good especially! this movie is going to deservedly clean up at the oscars.
