Over on the box office forums they're projecting 70m+ opening... that is literally insane for this :deadbanana4:

If this 3-hour R-rated biopic becomes his biggest opening (sans Batman) lmao :ahh: But I can see it though, the IMAX demand is insane. Anyway, great to see the reactions translated into critical raves :jonny5: Nolan and Gerwig really said, "We're going to make sure you will have the best weekend at the movies!" :clap3:

Amazing for an indie film from an up and coming director. :clap3:

I really wanna watch this at IMAX, but all decent seats are sold out for the month ahead :jonnycat:

directors with multiple 90+ metascored best picture nominees this century:

there will be blood + phantom thread + licorice pizza

lady bird + little women

gravity + roma

hurt locker + zd30

fellowship + return of the king

Both Nolan and Scorsese may join.

Going to watch this on Saturday on IMAX. :jonnycat: I'm so excited. :WAP: I fear it's gonna be an experience.

What was the Trinity Test scene like?

Spoiler

The Trinity Test scenes, especially the actual test scene was powerful yet devastatingly haunting. The moments that leads up to the actual test can be quite confusing for some because there will be time lapses and flashback scenes from time to time but overall it was explained enough. Be sharp to hear the dialogues and the narrations though because it can be fast-paced at times.

3 hours is WAY too long. While it is a good movie its not a great movie.

7/10 a bit overhyped since its Nolan

This.

i enjoyed it and would give it a 8/10, but it’s already way overhyped because it’s Nolan. The movie was too long and the emphasis on watching it in IMAX is so exaggerated.

Spoiler

IMAX was not necessary for 80% of the movie

I just came back from seeing it since all the IMAX 70mm are sold out. It was really great but I expected to see more atomic explosions

Spoiler

Matt Damon's acting was not good.

To those who watched it... What did y'all think about Queen Emily Blunt's performance? How big is her role and will it be significant enough for  supporting nominations in the future?

was meh for me, her role is very small and anytime she has a good moment, it's very short. she's probably third in line to be nominated, and even then, i would personally doubt it.

The 70mm screenings in my location are sold out till next Tuesday :deadvision: the demand is insane, hopefully it’ll be worth all the hype when I go. Don’t know if I can sit through 3 hours of this though

This movie was perfect as far as I'm concerned. So intense and captivating the whole way through. Cillian and Robert Downey Jr. deserve all ten recognition for what they do here, and Nolan of course.

The main focus is really on Oppenheimer, everyone else has short scenes except Robert Downey Jr. However, even in her short scenes Emily snatched the attention especially in the last scenes so who knows maybe she can get nominated for the Golden Globes at least.

Amazing movie btw :clap3:

After seeing the film, I definitely think Emily Blunt will be nominated. She has that scene. Once you see it, you'll know!

Emily was so nuanced in this. I can see a nom if the film is strong enough on its own to coat tail a BSA.

Anyway, this is sooo impressive. Loved the scoring, loved the shots, loved the 3rd act.

The testing was also amazing to anticipate.

Are you talking about the interrogation scene or the final medal ceremony scene?
