........because she came from Cuba :deadbanana2:

Why the hell would she publicly say this?

I don't know what would possess someone with years of media training to admit this unprovoked

This is why many white Latinos like Ana de armas do not consider themselves white because a lot of white Americans still apply racial stereotypes to them even if they look white.

Why would she even say that? Oh my god

It's giving Kelly Osborne at the view for some reason :rip:

why did she decide to tell on herself? no one made her admit this :rip:

but, not surprised, she’s just saying the quiet part out loud. I’ve encountered white Americans who treat me like this or condescend to me like I don’t know anything even though I’ve lived here most of my life and speak English with no accent, just because I’m brown.

I think she’s trying to own her ignorance and acknowledges the embarrassment and idiocy of her thinking. I’d honestly rather white people say this than to have these prejudices and never acknowledge them/pretend to be perfect and “not at all racist.” White people are so afraid to talk about their own biases and racial blind spots - these admissions are in some way a step toward having more honest and productive discussions about race.

Unfortunately this is a double edged sword, as there’s another human being at the center of these comments, so admitting this out loud is also a micro aggression and hurtful to de Armas. I definitely would have kept this to myself and never said it out loud, but I appreciate her willingness to own up to her ignorance.

Now why would she publicly admit this? I guess she wasn’t acting in Knives Out :skull:
