I think she’s particularly dangerous too because people saw her + HP as huge icons for ~liberal millennials~ for a long time. 5-6 years ago people would’ve been praising her and writing Buzzfeed articles about her ~snarkiest takedowns~ of the types of right wing nutjobs she is now aligned with. People eat up this sort of shift and thinks it validates their own transphobia while still being a “good person” because they see it from someone they looked up to. Or they “see her making some valid points,” and we know where that line of thinking eventually leads…

Similar to when Trump was in office, and to try and be productive, I'm mentally more in the space of tracking action, not words. Words affect individual acts of transphobia those accounts have tracked, yes, but to compile all of those mentally would be too much for me. 

 

To that end, Rowling's home of the UK (still, I believe?) seems to be imploding politically at the moment so I haven't really followed trans legislation there. 

 

As far as Matt Walsh is concerned, I recalled recently reading ongoing legal action against him, and not just for this documentary. Plenty of legal folks in the States track him almost daily for action and I know because I follow some of them. 

 

Same goes for the newly revealed Libs of TikTok account whose targeted businesses have mounted a significant pushback (even in rural red areas) because they now have national attention.

I grew up with the Harry Potter series, an escape that gave me such joy as a child. I know you’re supposed to remove the artist from the art and not let personal beliefs tarnish the work that was created, but I really struggle to watch and enjoy Harry Potter now. i saw the documentary and while the it did hit some good points in regards to the potential side effects of hormone blockers, the framing of the interviews was not even trying to pretend to be impartial or truly investigative. the agenda was thick. i had no idea he set up a fake organization and tried to involve children in it. that's some slimy hypocritical mess.

Did you know that puberty blockers have been used on cis children for decades to combat early puberty without any kind of backlash or upset. Are cis children immune from these side effects or were you perhaps just mislead by information presented out of context? Or maybe even just lies (I haven't seen the doc)?

I don't disagree, but as far as moral billionaires come, becoming a billionaire because of books and movies seems like the least bad way to do it... yet here she is being an absolute garbage person. I feel like when you get as famous and successful as Rowling, you need to find a way to still be a victim so you can "fit in" with others. I feel like if there had been some kind of therapeutic intervention early on into this mess she might have come out the other side, because clearly she has some personal issues that are driving this hatred, but being a billionaire means you don't have to answer to anyone, so unfortunately she slipped fully to the dark side.
