theipaper: The world is waiting for Adele to fail

As a result, a conflict has emerged; fans and followers who feel completely entitled to all of Adele whilst knowing almost nothing about her private life.

People are angry if she loses weight or cancels her show, even if the reasons are justified, if she is perceived to have strayed too far from the soft, homebody image she has displayed since she first emerged onto the musical stage as a teenager.

If we’re honest, it feels a lot like waiting for her to mess up, to have a public failure.

As we have always done with successful women that dare to have a personality, we clutch at any hint of grandiosity or hypocrisy, desperate to punish them for the cardinal sin of inauthenticity.

Not them exposing some atrlers. :clap3:

Very true. The first thing everyone around me commented on when Easy On Me came out was her weight loss. Some people even accused her of pumping her lips up. It's so weird that people think that just because you lose weight you suddenly lose all your personality and spirit (which is still very much present in Adele's recent interviews).

There's nothing people love more than someone who was on top of the world falling down, especially in music

When you release a (to many) underwhelming album that only produces one hit and then cancel your tour/residency on short notice for vague reasons, leaving many out of pocket, then you will get blowback. That’s nothing to do with her gender or “having a personality”.

Though of course, as always, some are taking it too far and making her out to be some cartoon villain whose fame has gone to her head and such, and that’s obviously a different thing.

So true. There were so many passive aggressive threads on ATRL even before EOM dropped :boat:

The writer's effort to tie her weight loss to her blatant lies about the fountain, among other tour issues, for her pride, is shameless and grotesque. Those that had problems with her wanting to lose weight on her own terms have their own psychological projections to work out, but the two concepts have absolutely nothing to do with one another.

Even worse are those calling out fans as entitled when her actions most affected the union members that lost wages.

Jealousy for her success? Inauthenticity? Buzzwords signifying nothing. This writer has no argument.

As someone that's seen her twice and owns all her albums, she could've been upfront. She wasn't, and continues not to be.

It'll be great once she starts her run at the Coliseum which will inevitably sell out and be done on her terms, fine. No one's owed an Adele show. They are owed the truth however, and she still hasn't given it. Covid wasn't the entire story.

Those working the shows have said as much to several publications that aren't just the ambulance-chasing TMZ or UK tabloids.

Also there's always going to be those wishing for a downfall for every big artist? For anyone to claim Adele's special in that regard is ludicrous.

Not y’all acting like you didn’t live for the downfall of singers during ARTPOP or Witness but because she’s Adele (who has actually let down a lot of people) she gets a pass? A joke :rip:

What was underwhelming about 30? I’m still waiting for her actual fans to complain about the album. Having Adele apologizing during one of her concerts because she thought we were let down by her album was one of the saddest things I’ve seen. It’s clear haters on social media made her believe we weren’t happy with the music, which is not true. We are happy with the material, what we need is more promo and Vegas new dates.

Like I’ve always said, the hate she’s getting on ATRL is really nothing but pure misogyny

Where’s the pass? ATRL has done nothing but direct misogynistic hate at Adele since she announced her return. Let’s keep it real here, please.

And even before that. Let us not forget that awful nickname they gave us as a base.

They were SO pressed before she returned.

True. The same people in here that condemn misogyny at every chance they get are the ones who participate in the annual taking down of a female artist. 2013 it was Gaga, 2015 it was Iggy, 2017 it was Katy, now it's Adele. Hypocrites
