The pop girls need to adapt to the streaming age..... Sure, the streaming of Love On The Brain was bad, when it was peaked, but the sales were pretty good for it, in those times, I guess... But I might be wrong. Edited May 24, 2017 by Pacaveli

I agree but I was just pointing out radio is the metric it best performed ;) Also to compare with MR, sales are the metric it performed the best.

That is what's conferring males an advantage on the Hot 100. Of course, the link between those two statements is that streaming is growing and that streaming is dominated by rap and R&B.
alexanderao Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 7 minutes ago, DangerousSwiftie said: But the point was that there's nothing that females aren't doing that males are doing. R&B and rap are dominating streaming, yes, but the females that are putting out music in that genre aren't really doing well either (bar Rihanna and Beyonce). There's nothing giving them the obvious advantage that they have, which is what I find so odd. I would argue that Kehlani, Nicki, Rih, and Bey's music are not really on-trend when it comes to hip-hop. I'd recommend listening to all the songs in the SoundCloud top 50, which should give anyone a good perspective on the current zeitgeist of urban music. Plus, you have to realize that males are more likely to see more success because more males are making rap and R&B. If females have far fewer people making that kind of music than males, there's going to be a smaller chance that you see successful females. There are countless men who are struggling to break out in rap and R&B right now, but there are so many making rap and R&B in the first place that inevitably many are successful (it's kind of a law of numbers thing imo).

She was the it girl of 2013 and this was her grand return. When will ATRL understand that the stature of the artist doesn't matter, if the song isn't great it won't be a hit.

The charts throughout history are full of trends and hot artists thriving on soso songs because they and their genre were hot for the moment. Like? And I'm talking about NOW, 10-15 years ago a song could've been a hit, albeit not a big one because of the artist, but the rules aren't the same today, thanks to streaming which makes the consumers' preferences reflected on the charts.

FanOfPop Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 If "Say You Won't Let Go" reaches top 10 will it be the longest time for a song to reach something like this? Also, happy for Imagine Dragons! This is gonna be another big era for them - at least it seems to be so.
