Jay T Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 With ~32 songs that are at least 3 years old charting on Apple Music US top 200; and 57 songs from spotify USA that are at least 3 years old charting its giving new music is not having any substantiality as it should. This is pretty significant, I was thrown off when I seen the amount of old rap songs charting on Apple Music. Thoughts?
Mattyboy Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 Yon do realize songs that are 2-3 years old are still new to the GP right?
Otter Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 This is the nature of streaming. People have always listened to old music but past charts were based off new purchases whereas modern are based on listening behaviour

Michael196 Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 lol have you seen the bb200? half the list isn't from this decade, and so many albums aren't even from the last decade either...
Gov Hooka Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 Good. More accurate tracking of ppl’s listening habits. The bottom half of charts in the 60s would be filled with jazz/doowop tracks if charts actually tracked music consumption back then. Same with 80s probably being filled with funk/classic rock, etc.
Sugden Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 i mean its a streaming thing people always listened to a lot of old songs

First of all, I said three years meaning 2019 before the pandemic . Second of all most of the old songs are 2017/18 which is very much old. So I don’t get ur point here… it’s never been this many old songs chartin on Apple Music.
simmnfierzig Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 Why do you think that listening to older music is bad? And 90 out of 400 seems low tbh
Mrnoniee Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 this payola thing was coming to bite them UP sooner or later the huge payola and PUSH they give to labels' puppets and studio's soundtracks is why the payola takes YEARS to wear off and CLOGGS up the chart

That is totally not the same nor compatible to buying albums. Just now, simmnfierzig said: Why do you think that listening to older music is bad? (Hip hop artists)

It doesn't exist!!! Everything is Payola with ya when a song is successful OT: Older audiences now know how to use these services and wanna listen to songs they like. This isnt rocket science. The more this becomes accessible to older audiences or the audience that's used to this gets older, the more long lasting older songs.

(Hip hop artists) The hiphop album bombs usually don't last more than a week and only 2-3 songs survive once it's over. Also you didn't answer the question. Why do you think listening to older music is bad? The quality this year has been kinda lacking US wise for example. Outside of Dawn FM and Un Verano Sin Ti I haven't heard a full album this year. I've cherrypicked some single but overall I only listen to maybe 1 or 2 of the newest songs per week and I think only about 6 songs from this year are in my library. So it's also music industry problem...the songs are kinda lacking..thats why you have a song from 2020 still in the top 10 on the hot 100
