The criticism is that Americans are so ******* illiterate and ignorant to their own backwards ass society and way of life that they can only comprehend the negatives of their society by comparing it to cultures it deems less then. Like to highlight that these issues are wrong because they're outside some mythical American high standard.

No, the Supreme Court is not the "Christian ISIS". No, America isn't "becoming like China" when it's police murder people in broad daylight.

These are all inherently American phenomenon that require acknowledging America as a deeply undemocratic religious police state. :skull:

These qualities are not foreign or abstract. They are central to the reality of the last 400 years of American barbarism as an oppressive state onto itself and others.

ATRLers missing the point as usual. the issue people have with this is that it was a decision exclusively made by American men. There was nothing foreign to it. In fact Saudi Arabia for example, one of the most conservative Muslim majority country allows abortion in the following cases "Risk to woman's life, to her health*, rape, or fetal impairment", meaning it allows abortion in more cases than a lot of US states after Roe.

Stop posting ******* tweets as a source. It's so corny and really shows how chronically online and delusional you are

so every woman wearing a burqa & every man with a beard are taliban members? maybe it would've been less worse if the picture included an isis flag or something, but there's no indication that she's comparing the supreme court to a terrorist organization, there are many regular muslim men and women who look like that

this picture just spreads islamophobia

Why would people think she was comparing 6 SCOTUS judges to ordinary everyday Muslims, though? What sense would that make? She was obviously making a point about the so-called "Christian Taliban", a phrase that liberals first came up with in recent years when they began comparing the oppressive US far-right/conservatives with other infamous conservative organizations.

She probably read the term "Christian Taliban" and thought she did something clever, when in reality all she's done is piss off a bunch of people who didn't get her point. Then again, it is Twitter after all so I'm not surprised. :toofunny2:

I’m going to read this generously and assume she’s trying to make a point about Christian fundamentalists running our country and make people think about how acceptable it would be to have a Muslim majority on the SC imposing sharia law on the country… idk who this woman is though

christians are banning abortions and she's blaming... muslims?? :deadbanana4::deadbanana4:

No, she’s not blaming Muslims. She liking them to the Taliban - the “Christian Taliban,” as liberals like to call them. People are pointing out that conservatives are taking a page out of the book of the very people they warn about.

My aunt has had 2 abortions due to pregnancy complications & lives in Kuwait.

Abortion is permitted in most islamic countries to save the life of the woman, preserve her physical health, preserve her mental health, or if there is foetal impairment. The Quranic verse quoted in this thread literally states it’s permitted in cases that are legal (and there are various time considerations based on the nation, as a general rule though it’s believed a “soul” enters in 120 days) and in cases where it’s a risk to health. “Health” can be interpreted in many ways, and Kuwait for example, also includes mental health.

Obviously, like the other abrahamic religions, it’s not some bastion of pro-choice freedom where you’re free to have an abortion by sheer will, & sex is only permitted by marriage, but a woman’s life & the expected quality of the foetus’ life are considered in several instances.

With this & her most recent tweet, Bette’s just seems like a clueless facebook meme mum. She has every right to criticise a religion, but this comparison is a deflection that absolves & deflects from the extreme-right, christian influence on this matter.

For how long will Dems get away with this? The absurd amount of high profile Dems saying stuff that most Republicans wouldn't dare to say (out loud ofc) :ahh:

Bette baby I was with you yesterday but this ain't it...:doc:

Also it's so funny how muslims want to make it seem like their religion is so progressive and pro women's right:rip:

There's valid criticism of Islam but there's no need for it to catch strays in the case of Roe v Wade because that is entirely based in Christian fundamentalism. She's just shown she's a bigot.

The replies saying that Islam is pro-abortion completely prove that some Twitter liberals  don't know what they're talking about. :toofunny3:

Twitter proves how dumb people are

Why is she dragging Islam into this? Those people are extremists of another religion

The irony of people here asking why people defend islam while they are having a field day dragging muslims for absolutely no reason for something that is not related to islam at all.

This has nothing to do with the current abortion issue in America

Obviously the way women are treated in most Islamic societies is pretty indefensible but that’s a separate issue. Muslims are not the ones making abortion illegal in the USA.

Yeah  but I do think there is a bit of an overlap.  If you encourage women to cover up their body to prevent men from objectifying it-it will affect your bodily autonomy.

She’s serving Debra Messing realness. Extremist Islam deff can be criticized but bringing it up out of the blue and tying American abortion bans to Islam when you have evangelical christians to blame for that is a MESS.

As an Arab and a gay man who lives in Saudi Arabia,

I agree with her.

I hate it here, not only that, I could go to jail for 5 years for just being gay,

and the west should stop defending Islam because it's as dangerous as Christianity,

so don't be a fool and call out its ****.

Western wokies are posting their support for Islam from the safety of their liberal and democratic country. They wouldn't be so quick to whine about "IsLAmOpHoBiA!!" if they actually had to live in one of their countries.

We’re not supporting Islam, we’re just not in favor of her tweet when this is coming from a mostly Catholic SCOTUS.
