Will gay ever be allowed in Middle East? And how?

Revolution

Not for hundreds of years (if we even get that far on this planet). The gays will struggle for a long, long time, and I’m not excluding the Western World or the U.S. either. They have their own issues. And in many ways, their foreign policies are making it extremely difficult- almost impossible - for these countries to advance not just technologically but also as an equitable society.

As a species, we’re just so behind and regressive, but progress does eventually happen, even if the road is winding and has countless ups-and-downs.

If white gays continue embarrassing themselves in the West like this past few years, LGBT Rights will never progress there as right-wing conservative muslims will have more than enough materials to say no LGBTs should get any rights there :rip:

I think if it COULD be allowed, it would be allowed in Tunisia.

Actually, gay sex is common in Saudi Arabia. Men often seek the company of other men due to gender segregation. If you keep it discreet, they would not know you’re gay nor would they care whatever you do in private. Men and women fooling around is a much bigger taboo than gay sex.

Most of those orange/red countries don’t even have basic human rights. Let’s start with that first :rip:

No, and it’ll eventually become illegal in several Western European countries when Muslims become the majority of the religious population.

It really depends on the country. Richer expat dependent places or tourist hotspots will probably decriminalise it to keep the money pouring in (like UAE and Tunisia) but I don’t know if gay marriage would ever be legalised in our lifetime.

This is such right-wing fear mongering.

majority of French and British born Muslims think homosexuality should be illegal. There’s more young people under 20 who identify as Muslim than Christian in places like Belgium and Sweden. You really have no idea how conservative and right-wing Muslims are, and they are much more vocal than Christians.

Yes, progress will happen. Who would’ve thought we’d come as far as we have in the US after the AIDS crisis? I think people here are a tad pessimistic.

"Tad pessimistic" when it's perfectly legal to murder gays simply because of their sexuality in some Middle Eastern countries. Yeah okay. :skull:

Yes of course, and who deserves human rights first isn't supposed to be a battle.

But in countries where women are 2nd hand citizens, where they can't go to school or get an education, and where rape is basically allowed, gay rights are the last things you will think about...

Of course I care about us gays, but there are bigger issues going on there. Those issues need to be resolved first before our turn.

I come from an area of the UK that’s 40% Muslim and have many Muslim friends. This just isn’t true, most British born Muslims don’t share their parents views. If you look at most Muslim MPs or those with significant political power (Sadiq Khan for example), you will see the majority are left wing and support gay rights.

I’m half Arab and spent part of my childhood there, and I’ve accepted it’s not happening in my lifetime.

Like a lot of people said it is actually surprisingly easy to get away with gay sex in MENA, because society is so sex-segregated no one bats an eye at two people of the same sex spending a little too much time together or being a little too affectionate together.

But legally speaking, LGBT rights are generally getting worse, not better. A lot of it is because many of these countries only stopped being under colonial rule in the last half century or so, and see Islamism as being anti-colonial. Then the LGBT community is seen as something that Westerners are shoving down everyone’s throats, and painted as a relic of colonialism. For that reason, I hate it when Western embassies pull stunts like raising rainbow flags in these homophobic countries during Pride Month because it just makes everything worse. A Western embassy tried that this past year in my country and it didn’t help anyone, it just led to a month of the local media scaremongering about gay people and spewing homophobic nonsense on the news every night.

eventually.

it was able to become legal in largely Christian countries, so it will eventually there too. It just takes time.

Your first comment makes no sense with what you said in the second part. It isn't supposed to be a battle but you think women getting rights is more important than gay people? Why can't both be important at the same time?

Because we need women's voices to support our cause as well? If half of the population doesn't have any rights, how can we get there?

You cannot expect gays to have more rights than the average woman. You just can't.

I mean, even in our society we wouldn't be able to make it without the support of women.
