Work by Rihanna spent 9 weeks at #1 and it reached 4x Platinum after 9 months. EOM is probably close to 4x, so they are doing about the same

the pure sales for EOM weren’t higher than normal for 2021/2022 or are the streams not as high as i’m thinking they are?

It was but its last 3-4 weeks were mostly carried by radio, its numbers are cute but nothing extraordinary.

Them certifying it now doesn't mean it JUST reached the mark.

It is eligible for x4 platinum but they only bought the certification for x3 platinum.

Plus it makes sense. Smashes like Drivers License and Good 4 u are at x5 platinum and they were released way before EOM.

EOM is eligible for x4. It sold 4,3M RIAA units so far. The update isn't necessarily a live update. Also you're comparing a piano ballad to a very very pop upbeat song..
