it's horrible, but thankfully my phone somehow reverted back to the old interface. honestly if the new UI comes back on my phone I'll consider deleting the app. it just looks sooo messy and inaccessible to have text over the content you want to see. speaking of accessibility, the new UI is ableist as well, I have issues with it so I can't imagine what it's like to people with bad eyesight or dyslexia. a mess all around!

I am usually not one to complaing about new UI because I understand mostly it takes your eye getting used to it and then it feels normal, and you'll complain when they make the next change (like every logo change IG has had...)

 

BUT

 

Displaying pictures with coloured bars above and below does not look good. It's too "matchy" and for artists using IG to display their work, it looks far better in a white/gallery format. Also the carousel looks worse too.

 

ON TOP OF THAT, captions that OVERALP any image that is not landscape format now is a TERRIBLE design choice, as to make it readable they've decided to put a black shadow over the image, thereby again changing the integrity of how the image displays. Reading captons that are longer than 2 sentences is hard too, becuase they only show you about that mucht text, and you have to scroll within that small height to read more.

 

 

I understand their desire to pivot towards being their competitor, but at least retain parts of your platform that people use/like/enjoy. They can have both.

Mine was like this, then one day a week or so ago it reverted back to the normal free-scroll. But I agree, those changes were really unnecessary and annoying.

EW WTF!! This is the only social media I still use simply because of the photo format. It's a nice place to keep memories. That interface looks like absolute ****. Tik ToK is rotting everything  Twitter and YouTube and now this 

 

It's already bad enough that every other post is an ad + the Instagram shop like who is actually using that? But now this is complete trash. My bf showed me bc his updated and it's full of people he doesn't even know or follow like what the **** even

I haven't been on social media for ages now, and the last remaining account I have is instagram, which I usually enjoy, but meh. 

 

The new update looks... dysfunctional

Its horrendous. 

 

Its not smooth, I hate the way it refreshes every time you scroll to the top. I dont know whats in chronological order and things go missing off my feed. These changes were from a while ago, but paired with the recent newsfeed update... its all so jarring now I can barely scroll longer than 2 minutes

yeah i don't understand them pushing reels so bad when instagram already serves a role much different from tiktok. plus the ones i get suggested are awful. like it'll literally be someone dipping a corn cob in metallic paint or like a dog with sunglasses on. who needs these?

Instagram is declining.

 

I can’t imagine spending more than 10mins a day on there. The UI is now horrible and every post or two is sponsored.

But yes it's tragic, TikTok UI works cause you stop scrolling to watch the video and it takes up the whole screen, I don't need to look at every photo for 5 seconds and it looks ugly with square photos

Instagram should have realised it had a niche outside of other social media platforms. It’s the one for photos. Nobody I know wants to go on there and post videos unless it’s to their story. Facebook is for unhinged rants, twitter is for quick little opinions, TikTok is for dumb mind numbing video scrolling and instagram is and should have stayed simply for photos. That’s how it worked best and why it was popular because you didn’t have to plan it out or go through a big process. Youd snap a pic, add a little filter and then leave it as that.
