Katy’s and Kesha’s achievements were basically single’s digital sales, because they were from that era. Both were terrible album sellers.

 

Tour doesn’t count because in the early 00s it was non-existent.

 

Dido felt more respected and became one of Englands richest women at her time with those soccer mom album sales so yeah it felt like she had more success in her prime.

 

I won’t even bother with streaming, Katy and Kesha debuted way closer to the streaming era so everyone knows newer artists have a huge advantage over the ones in the late 90s and early 00s.

She was a local singles artist outside of Tik Tok and only had 1 big era, Dido’s album sales alone are enough to dwarf Kesha’s career.

Teenage Dream is at around 10M album units with SPS. All of Katy‘s pre-Streaming era albums have sold over 5M pure copies PLUS all the single sales from each one (up to 10M+, which is not just because they debuted in the digital era) which is more impressive than just buying the album but not the singles. 
 

Dido’s tours were so unremarkable they don’t even have their own Wikipedia article unlike most major artists tours from that time. 

 

“One of England’s richest women” is cute for what she did but Katy literally was the highest paid female musical artist of 2015 and one of the highest paid artists every year ever since so your point?

 

Her streams are cute ig but nothing special for an act at her time, even tho many of her peers managed to have way more streamed/remembered songs (Natalia Imbruglia, Nelly Furtado, Amy Winehouse, Alicia Keys) despite not having the amazing physical album sales of Dido at the time. She’s on the level of a Duffy streaming- and everything but physical album sales wise.

what a troll post. she has 2 songs over 230m streams in spotify and another one over 100m. thats not awful for a 50 year old early 00s act

I really don’t wanna come for Katy but Dido’s No Angel sold 15million and Life for Rent 13million.

Also Safe Trip Home sold around 2M without any hit just by her name alone, same with GWGA who sold 600k with no hit tho and no promo… her last album had a huge campaign in UK and achieved good sales for an artist that is way far from

her peak (400k)… also her GH is a consistent catalog seller tho…

 

Katy and Kesha even with all the promo they can do with their albums barely sell 500k with their albums… imagine an album by then with no promo and not even a Hot 100 entry… they would just flop into oblivion… Dido's name is strong enough to sell 350k by her name alone without moving a finger and then take a huge 5 year break and do the same all over again… imagine if she promoted and her label invested in play listing

Yes exactly, Dido’s success was a lot more organic too, and she’s had a much longer career because of that. Her latest numbers are extremely solid considering the circumstances.

 

Katy and Kesha had machines of marketing and Dr Luke behind them, the investment especially in  Katy was A LOT, and while I’m sure they made money back, the push counts and was insane.

 

Dido basically just records albums and releases them.

 

She’s also not a big celeb and still sells a lot.

People saying Katy and Kesha are more know today should take into perspective that Dido debuted more than a decade before them. The way Dido is know today is probably not that different from how Katy or Kesha will be know in 10 years unless they manage to release new hits or something.

Also Dido always works with her brother on her albums + three or four songs by Rick Knowles or another producer like Brian Eno or Lester Mendez… she must be one of the most profitable artists on the mainstream industry since her debut tbh
