Relying on having a super majority of Dems in the Senate, the House, and Dems in the White House is NOT a strong strategy.

This is literally the only strategy there is to pass worthwhile legislation. That's simply how our Government works. It's shitty, I'll give you that, but we have to deal with what we have. There isn't enough agreement to pass constitutional amendments - the only way to change how our government works. Dems have only had a six month supermajority since 1994. That's why legislation we all want hasn't been able to pass. Polls are consistent in showing that a MAJORITY of this country supports these ideas - a majority of the country leans Dem, yet not enough gen z vote. Not enough people vote for these changes to take hold.

Maybe not on this day, but it would have eventually. The government is not incentivized to protect people. That is a fact. If you think just voting is the solution, you’re deluded. The leader of the House Democrats literally was campaigning for an anti-choice Democrat with an A+ rating from the NRA. Relying on the Democrats to solve all of our problems is a loser’s strategy and obsessing over 2016 is not helping anyone today. Let’s actually talk about how to move forward. Just voting isn’t the solution.

Well I’m talking about this day because it happened and not some hypothetical future you are making up.

if Hilary won todays events would not have happened period

It’s not. Republicans are strong because they get money. Organized boycotts have historically pushed change through Congress and have put pressure on elected officials to bend the knee. We need to attack Republicans at the source and challenge their funding. Just voting doesn’t work.

Crying about 2016 isn’t going to help anyone. Thinking about strategies for the future is more productive. But you do you.

I NEVER said this. :ace:

If you think just electing Democrats helps us at all, then you're deluded.

My entire point was saying we cannot JUST vote. We need to do more than that. We can vote to put in placeholders to keep Republicans out. But just doing that isn't sufficient and we need to do more than that. One of those things are organized strikes and boycotts for corporations that support politicians pushing these policies so there's financial pressure on these politicians and we can further stifle their political ambitions.

The anti-sodomy laws of the past were for exactly that. One of these Supreme Court decisions they're looking to overturn outlawed such laws. So yes.

This makes ZERO sense, rightwing atrlers said that it was the trans women that were the problem and we need to focus on eradicating Islam!

I REFUSE to accept the reality that the christian right is the problem in america, no amount of mass shootings and religiously motivated assaults could convince me, my narrative requires colored people overseas to be the bad guys!

Every. Single. Gay man that was cheering on the assault on trans rights because they thought they were in the clear has fault in this. A house divided is a house to fall.

Everyone participating in lgbt spaces, please be safe, you'll be seeing antigay bashings making a mainstream comeback.

The right/conservatives/fundamentalist whatever they identify as in your neck of the woods, hate ALL NONBINARIES, this includes you too, gay men!

Banning abortion is obviously horrible but at least there's a chance some privileged women will be able to go to blue states (still a hurdle). But what would overturning gay marriage even look like? Would a couple who moves from California to Texas become legally separated, would their kids be taken from them as they're deemed "groomers", would they be arrested on suspicion of sodomy? It's so f**king scary

What I'm confused about is like, what would a case being brought to SCOTUS on this issue even look like? "My neighbor had gay sex and it offended me so I'm suing him"? :hoetenks:

Do you know what a nonbinary is?

It's not just gender. States of matter and political ideas as also nonbinary. I don't care how you identify in gender; you do not fit the straight mold, you are outside that binary of man and woman.

The USA is such a backwards hell hole...LGTBQ are next, I feel for all the people that will be affected there

I hate to know that all those far right pos are salivating at the thought of what other rights they are going to be able to take

They are going to make gay sex illegal in most conservative states. This is really terrifying.

I really thought this country was about freedom of religion. This is total bullshit

Amendments don’t do anything. The Supreme Court has final say.

Incorrect. An amendment would be the way to insure all this stuff would remain legal nationwide. But, a constitutional amendment is probably the hardest thing to get done. First you have to get it through Congress, and then have a high number of state legislatures approve it. Once ratified, it's law that that even the SCOTUS can't overturn.

Roe was overturned because this SCOTUS said the previously ruling SCOTUS which initially ruled on Roe misapplied or misinterpreted the constitution. If something is specially spelled out in a constitutional amendment, there is no way to counter it

Probably. Yes. They'll have community policing like they've done with the anti-abortion bills in TX. One of the pundits I follow made a good point: with Roe v. Wade defeated, Republicans will need to move further to the right to satisfy their insane base. They keep their base happy by ginning up their hatred and bigotry. With Roe v. Wade defeated, they have to find other pieces of red meat to make the Christian radicals of the country happy and so overturning gay sex, gay marriage, and contraceptions are an obvious set of next targets.

I’m honestly scared to be a black gay man in America today and in the future. This country is so backwards, and evil
