This is probably not really going anywhere lbr. Not sure why people expect Beyonce to have a huge hit given that she hasn’t been a hitmaker in the traditional sense in like a decade. She’ll move a good amount of albums and her tour will smash, as always.

Posted

She does need something soon to help stabilize the song - a video, promo, etc., but this isn’t a freefall.

This song is so infectious and good on her! I'm loving it and listening daily :katie2:

She's doing fine on the charts. She's 41 and it's a solo song. That's very hard to do.

Posted

I hope radio picks this up a bit and cuts out some of shouting at the beginning.  It's a fun song.

Maybe I just had low expectations, but I feel this is doing well. :skull: Almost one week in and it's still top 20 WW and still stable in the top 10 in the US. Considering how her projects post-Lemonade fared commercially, and the fact that Beyonce is a black woman in her 40s who debuted in the 90s, AND the fact that this song is gay as hell, I thought it would have dropped like a rock by now.

nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn :rip:

Liddos stay PERCHEDT about every single artist's latest release :toofunny3: and then have the nerve to cry and play the victim when people come for Gaga. They never learn, like the first page of this thread is already disturbing enough and they've been clockedT many times so i don't understand why they won't let it go :ace:

-

I'm happy with the numbers! :clap3:

:clap3:  Exactly.

Can't wait for the video and all the promo, which will probably give it a boost.

yes I agree about the cycle, and I wish more Hive would concern themselves just with Beyoncé and not others because they think concerning themselves with another popstar's numbers will make Beyoncé look better...

As you said, the music speaks for itself. And that's why I actually think the whole "she hasn't had a solo #1 since 2009" says more about Beyoncé in a good way than a bad way, as it shows that without having a #1 hit she's still been able to not only maintain, but increase her cultural importance/notoriety and pop music impact while at the same time becoming truly respected for her work. Not many...or even anyone I can think of, can say that.

Exactly. Every release is a moment, and I love that about her.

However a little tiktok video would be cute :doc:

Yeah, I agree. The thing is, though, Bey fans have been hyping this up for years and are constantly stating that Beyonce is an unstoppable force that no one can be compared to. They set their own fave up over and over. The narrative should not be that Beyonce is an unstoppable force, it should be that Beyonce is a seasoned icon in music and has a career that is not beholden to single/chart success.

I've always laughed at this "drag" when placing a single at Hot 100 #1 is typically a product of strategic label orchestration, large amounts of corporate payoffs, gaming playlists and streaming systems, etc. I have way more respect for an artist who doesn't focus their energy on that.

I don't like the song so much

But hopefully this will eventually become a hit. I want some of the older girls to have hits

Bey stans have always focused on her longevity, visuals, performances, and pioneering the surprise release. Nobody goes around saying that Bey outsells and outcharts everyone because we know she doesn’t have the peaks the other girls do. Any reference to being “unstoppable” is largely about how she bounces back after underperformances, and not because people expect huge chart results - I mean we all lived through 4, and even ST wasn’t a singles-driven era.

The narrative was that everyone on here kept saying she was over when EIL/The Gift flopped, and the Hive was saying she’d come back for her studio album and prove people wrong because she has longevity. Yes Bey dropped the ball massively on those side project eras, and yes the Hive often can get extremely cocky and retaliatory (see: all the premature threads gassing up the BMS), but nobody here realistically thinks she can compete with Adele’s first week numbers or Rihanna’s single success or anything like that.

i am not super versed in spotify numbers (as I don't concern myself with them unless they relate to my fave) but do most hits maintain their first day streams for a long time? is there some precendent we are comparing this to that states in order for it to be steady, it must maintain its debut streams, not just remain one of the top streamed songs?

Nothing is set in stone. The video can give it a boost. A performance can give it a boost. A scandal/viral moment can give it a boost. Radio can give it a boost. Take Shakira's "Te Felicito" as an example. She dropped the song two months ago, it debuted low in the top 100. A few days later, it was out of the top 100. Little by little, and thanks to the tiktok videos Shakira kept posting, the song made its way to the top 50, it stabilized there for a few days, and then the news broke that she and Pique were separating, and the song skyrocketed to the top 15, and it's been there for a few weeks now. People assumed she was dedicating it to Pique and it paid off. So, if B pushes it a little somehow, I'm sure she'll be just fine. I love the track, by the way!

shakira is not a good example because unlike most artists her hits almost always debut very low and rises after it.

beyonce can make this song stablize or maybe even rise but i don't see a sudden jump like in shakira's case apart from when the album drops the album( and usually the album bump dosen't last for long on it's own)

There is a precedent, but the stickied posts at the top of this thread won't let us talk about it

The song which that mod refers to as "stupid flop" was doing a whole million more streams than BMS by its 6th day. And yet ATRL and especially your base would not stop ridiculing it for "falling like a brick."

Reap what you sow... Perfection is so... Mm

OT: who cares if a bunch of straight people are not streaming this gay bop, it's a banger and that's more important than smashing :clap3:

That is true. Shakira never debuts high! But I do see Break My Soul staying in the top 20 for a while. And I'm sure the video and the album drop will help it climb a few positions.

yes let's not compare the two, but I don't think we can use any ONE song as a precedent, I'm asking for a general trend. On the 6th day of a major release, do they generally maintain the first or even second day streams?

I don't know if we can accurately compare "day 6" or whatever day to one another either, as two songs released at two different days of the week and with two different forms of promotion will indeed have different streams on that same day after their release.

Is Kworb up to date? How are these the only countries it’s top 10 in?

This song sounds better through speakers IMO. It’ll probably be better live.
