Its 3:37. In 2022 thats way too long. Should be 2:59 max. And that intro...7 seconds? Wayyy too long. No song does that nowerdays

like they said, people switch songs during the first 5 seconds of the song. Similar thing happened with something in the way you move. You cant hear anything in the intro. Its too long and a drag

Longer songs and songs around similar timing have smashed tho.

The GP barely knew that she had this song out.

like what? we're talking about 2022. I don't think any song has smashed over 3:20 unless you have a lot of star power e.g. Beyonce, Adele etc.

and yea agreed, she doesnt really have a strong fanbase

I love this song but it is clear it didn't click with the GP which is a shame b/c it is a BOP, I honestly don't think she is gonna land another hit like she has had in the past so I hope she can just release what she wants and that this doesn't stall the album.

Perfect length to smash :lakitu:

Length of the song is really not gonna make or break the hit :deadbanana2: But it's what she deserves for leading the era with a damn BB outtake

With Kate Bush practically being a recluse who posts the rare odd message on her site, how did you mentally process a 5 minute long song’s global success for weeks and months on end recently for someone with no active or outgoing “star power”? Surely it isn’t possible, it’s 2022 as you said.

Or maybe the proper conclusion to come to is that currently longer songs aren’t appearing as often in the charts simply because pop artists are recording less of them, not because they’re the ultimate arbiter of success. Correlation doesn’t equal causation.

Because of stranger things. Youre literally proving my point.

songs over 3:20 dont smash unless theyre by someone with star power or because of an ulterior reason which would greatly boost the songs performance.

if it wasnt for stranger things, the song wouldve stayed the same before it smashed. If they used another song and not running up that hill, that song still souldve smashed.

its like if someone performed a song at the superbowl, ofc it would smash.

im talking about songs that organically become a smash. E.g. dua lipas most recent songs or ava maxs

Lots of assumptions going on there. And now you’ve just added another stipulation to your original claim.

So according to you, songs longer than 3:20 can’t smash in 2022 unless they’re made by someone with star power. But now you’re gatekeeping how songs are able to go viral? So how about We Don’t Talk About Bruno? Or will you say that Disney films and its TikTok success isn’t the right kind of virality, either?

What about Glass Animal’s Heat Waves? Does that satisfy your requirements? 4 minute song. Massively successful. Global hit. Dominated radio and TikTok. “Organic”.

Dont talk about bruno smashed because it was in a very successful disney movie and also smashed because the kids listened to it.

like i said before, if easy lover was featured in stranger things like running up that hill was, it would SMASH.

Lets take a look at the most recent chart history.

1. as it was 2:47

2. bad habit 3:51

3. Late night 2:58

4. sunroof 2:43

5. About damn 3:12

6. I like you 3:12

7. Super freaky 2:50

8. Aint worried 2:28

9. Running up (stranger things)

10. Your proof 2:37

see how literally every single song is below 3:20 apart from one song (running up doesnt count)? Obviously a song over 3:20 can smash organically, i was obviously exaggerating, but the point is, the song length has a huge impact on a songs success as seen here.
