I believe she may have other hits yes, EL didn't have any playlist help

Yes Ellie is an artist that will always get a hit for no reason whatsoever.

CTM was a hit because its radio callout scores were very very good and also because playlisting was decent

HM was a hit because of viral TikToks despite piss poor playlisting

Sixteen - 300m spotify streams, nearly Plat in the Uk & already Gold in the US

SFFY is a semi hit because of Tiktok. Received 100m+ (150m if we count in Apple Music) streams because of this.

Lights - nothing needed to be said

She is an artist that has no hype or strong fanbase like Ariana etc. but once she actually does release something that sticks, it will eventually stick.

exactly, each hit of hers had a different trajectory, but we know that when a song receives support from the record company, things become easier, and she is also reaching an old phase for the charts

Strangely enough, both of those artists respect their fans enough to not keep releasing tracks featuring Spotify algorithm bait on their own singles and prefer to primarily focus on solo material on their releases.

Plus Ava Max’s recent new era opening single managed to be infinitely more successful on the Official Charts than Easy Lover has, despite that not being her home country, her as you say being a smaller act than Ellie and not having another artist’s fanbase to boost the numbers - it spent more weeks in the Official Charts than Worry About Me, New Love, Flux and Power combined.

Ellie kinda alienated her core fanbase in UK

Her core fanbase in UK is the ones listening to Hot AC ballad/ midtempo (LMLYD, SFFY, HLWILY etc)

The last era's big mistake was not releasing a proper ballad to keep those fans interested IMO

IMO she should Collab w Lewis Calpadi if she wants a hit tbh

I'll pass on Lewis Capaldi tbh.

I don't think Interscope is a good label for her tbh, I can understand why Daya left them.

What about Flux. I love that song soooo much + it has 70m streams on spoitify

Still hammering this daily, it’s a pity it flopped. But knowing her it’ll be a hit in 2 years :rip:

Is it the one that Daft Punk/The Weeknd inspired :jonny5:

Easy Lover is a bop but I know she has better stuff that’s she’s keeping :jonny5:

I hope Ellie and the label change their minds and leave Tainted Memories on the album

Underrated excellence

Dutch radio is actually playing this quite a lot but it's near to zero streams is what's holding it back to become a cute hit. What went wrong? She used to have good streaming.

@BlackoutZone Any news on what her next move might be?

She could still get a hit with the right song, but Easy Lover was just so milquetoast. I like it, but it was never going to work the miracle necessary to recover from Brightest Blue.

Interscope may have just been testing the waters with this one... at least that's what I'll tell myself :chick3:

i blame the long length, very very very slow beginning and repetitiveness tbh

it takes wayyyyyy too long to get to the chorus and when it does, it gets too repetitive. also that instrumental intro, tho lovely, was absolutely not necessary.

It’s just 3 and a half minutes long and that intro (probably the best part) was only 7 seconds, too. The way you’re describing it there makes it sound like it’s the length of Bohemian Rhapsody or something.

Maybe it’s a case of it not being a great song is more important than its average length and doesn’t exactly invite repeat listens or rewatches with the garbage video. How many times can Ellie sing about toxic relationships with a random man? It’s literally the exact same exhausted formula as all four EG.0 tracks.

Its 3:37. In 2022 thats way too long. Should be 2:59 max. And that intro...7 seconds? Wayyy too long. No song does that nowerdays

like they said, people switch songs during the first 5 seconds of the song. Similar thing happened with something in the way you move. You cant hear anything in the intro. Its too long and a drag

I personally think we have enough songs under 3 minutes lately. I encourage Ellie to not put time limits on her artistry

Naah, I'm glad it's actually 3:37, that's a descent length, compared to all those other 2:10 - 2:56 songs... those are repetitive as well

I love long song lengths too, but the song length is a valid reason as to why this song underperformed.

But at the end it is quiet repetitive though :) and it might be yes
