I'm pissed because I loved them, but there's really nothing Bey could do. Kelis isn't happy, so she removed it. This album is supposed to be about fun and joy so she doesn't even wanna deal with. I don't blame her.
glamrock<3 Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 The box set is beautiful and I'm so happy I have it in my collection now!

Ibrahim Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 What I'm loving about this album and how the songs progress and morph into new beats, rhythms, textures, soundscapes, etc; is that it all still makes sonic sense. It doesn't take you out of the song, it's a complementary journey through the music (and also the reason why I love Mariah's remixes). The sheer variety of vocal delivery that matches their energy the production is heaven. You can hear considerabe effort to not just provide a varying experience but that it's a variation that's curated with such precision and care that you're never even aware of it. The way it's all so polished and married together is stunning. It's a stark contrast to musicians who produce music and harmonies that are academically impressive but lack any kind of sonic cohesion to be really enjoyable. Can't believe this is the quality of a Beyonce album decades into her career. Truly blessed fans.

Haus Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 Even if you don’t think the changes to Energy are consequential, it’s still very lame that Kelis chose to detract from the moment by accusing her of theft, during release week at that. For the woman behind Flesh Tone I genuinely thought she’d appreciate the artistic value there
Hector Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 First place the album debuts anywhere in the world: Japan (because they refuse to adapt to the Friday release schedule) Billboard Japan Hot Albums Chart: 49 (NE) Renaissance (only based on 3 days of activity: physical import albums, album downloads, & streaming) Japan Top Download Albums (ORICON): 09 NE Renaissance 495 copies Japan Top Physical Albums (ORICON): 94 NE Renaissance 509 sales (imported copies only) So 1,004 pure sales after only 3 days with imports & album downloads. Billboard Japan Hot Overseas Chart: 10 (12) 6 Break My Soul (PK #4, #13 on the radio airplay chart now)

I’m gonna try and find a Renaissance CD in my local music store here in Kobe (Japan) and buy it on payday, but for now I’m waiting for my imported Pose 1. They do stock international CDs though as Avril had her own section back when Love Sux released. The local convenience store advertises albums at the checkout (even though they don’t sell any lol) and I saw 30 advertised there back in December so I hope to see Bey in the wild here. The international clubs are already playing BMS
Bey Admired Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 Finally have my top 5: 1. Alien Superstar 2. Plastic Off the Sofa 3. Break My Soul 4. Summer Renaissance 5. America Has a Problem That was hard.
Haus Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 Heated is the closest thing to a ballad and I make it work

Like I was watching a reaction video on YouTube and it basically made a lot of points. Have we ever had a musician, maybe even a major celebrity, known for her beauty, talent, grace, etc, be so outwardly proud of her blackness through her work and references? A lot of others had to play "the game", and she definitely used to in a certain extent in the beginning of her career, but she's always been pro-black tbh. She's just been a lot more vocal about it in the last decade–not in a disrespectful, gatekeeping way, but a proud way. Could you name anyone else? I find it so fascinating from a sociologic standpoint. I wholeheartedly agree and love her so much for it. I'm not sure it's totally fair, though, to compare her to her elders in this regard (not saying you are per se, but I digress). Like you said, a lot of them had to "play the game" to get by and create a success narrative that allowed for Bey's to exist decades later. I immediately think of how the Motown acts were literally trained to present themselves. Same with the 70s and 80s Black Pop stars. Genteel and inoffensive to the "mainstream". Even Bey, in the early to mid point of her career, had "play the game" until she earned the kind of power and autonomy to be as brazenly Black as she is now. In many ways, I find her commitment to uplifting Blackness a triumph for her, the elders before her (who literally couldn't), and the generation to come who will feel inspired to do the same. It's a circular win!

Anyone have a comparison? On the device I was using all day (my phone)it’s the OG version, but when I switch to another device the “La-La” section is completely taken out. It’s just the beat playing into the transition. And I’m using TIDAL. So, the credit was more of an accidental interpolation more than anything — not an intentional credit. Similar to what happened on the bridge of “6 INCH”. Boots talks about it in some interview. Sometimes, you finish a song and someone in the room notices it’s similar to another song, so you credit as a legal precaution. Edited August 3, 2022 by XXX.

Yes Dua also did this with Break My Heart, it's not a sample as much as a way to avoid legal troubles It's sad Kelis still had to **** it up while being credited pff Luckily Big Freedia is still there to make it snap
