AllyBunny Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 Everyone else has done it, so why shouldn't they it's only fair.
ultrablue Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 Finally the year end shows will be fun again since they won't have to give BTS all the awards by default.

lovatos Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 This sucks. For the people who are wondering why they were lobbying for an exemption and who think they should ‘fulfill’ their duties as other kpop-groups also have to enlist, the situations are not comparable. In 2019, it was estimated that BTS’ economic impact on South Korea was well over 4 billion dollars and over 1 million tourists visit the country yearly because of BTS. It is estimated that BTS’ 10-year impact on South Korea will be over 49 billion dollars which is more than the 2018 Olympic Games. No other kpop-group has ever strengthened the economic and cultural status of South Korea to this degree, and whilst I do realise that it’s a delicate issue for a lot of Koreans and that the opinions of a foreigner hold no value, I find it baffling that classical and folk music artists have been exempt/reduced, but not BTS. South Korea are really fumbling the bag.
taemin Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 Funny how people suddenly are pro-military when it comes to BTS

Bang Up Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 I figured this was why they decided to go on hiatus. They must've received the news that they weren't going to be exempt. The way they spent all that money and several years trying to get validation from the West and win a Grammy so they could get an exemption and it just didn't work. In fact, their attempt just made it harder for them to get an exemption because new laws were passed. Now the older members are going to have to enlist and be surrounded by young kids all because they waited until last minute.

South Korea are really fumbling the bag. Good for them. Great, even. That doesn't mean they should be given special privileges. Convincing a bunch of white Korean fetishizers to come to Korea is not cause for exemption. Thousands of idols have had to put their careers on hold to serve. Millions of average men have had to put their lives on hold to serve. It is simply unfair for these men to get exemptions just because of their celebrity status. South Korea is fumbling nothing. KPOP will still exist and will still bring in billions for the Korean economy.
