many gheys are scarred and bitter from growing up in a hostile homophobic society and they take their anger out on other queer people and women 

 

it's a big issue beyond ATRL that we don't talk about very often

Well for one, it's an internet forum. That alone is bound to attract some negative thinking users that use this as a distraction from their own life problems and project it on here where their identity is anonymous.

 

It also doesn't help that this site feeds on celebria drama and comparisons of pop stars. It's very ego-driven. People may feel a sense of their own self-worth in their favorite celebrities/pop stars and when a challenging POV is brought up their defense mechanism brings them to a place of feeling attacked. Unfortunately, this makes users resort to immaturity and bitterness rather than having productive conversations because they care more about being "right" than seeing the other side.
