SmittenCake Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Today we celebrate Iggy Azalea's 32nd birthday! Amelia Kelly was born in Sydney and grew up in Mullumbimby, New South Wales. Her father, Brendan Kelly, was an Irish-Australian painter and comic artist, while her mother, Tanya, cleaned holiday houses and hotels. Azalea lived in a house that her father built by hand from mud-bricks, surrounded by 5 hectares (12 acres) of land. She has two siblings named Mathias and Emerald Kelly She began rapping at age 14. Before embarking on a solo career, Azalea formed a group with two other girls from her neighborhood: "I was like, I could be the rapper. This could be like TLC. I'll be Left Eye." Azalea eventually decided to disband the group because the other girls were not taking it seriously: "I take everything I do serious. I'm too competitive." In pursuit of her desire to move to America, Azalea dropped out of high school. She worked and saved the money she earned by cleaning hotel rooms and holiday houses with her mother. She claims to have hated school, which, apart from art class, only made her miserable. She also said she had no friends and was teased for her homemade outfits Azalea traveled to the United States in 2006, shortly before she turned 16. She told her parents she was going "on a holiday" with a friend, but eventually decided to stay and shortly afterward told them she was not coming back home: "I was drawn to America because I felt like an outsider in my own country, I was in love with hip hop, and America is the birthplace of that, so I figured the closer I was to the music, the happier I'd be. I was right." She recalled, "My mum was crying, saying, 'Just be safe.' I was thinking, 'I'm going by myself. I'm ******* crazy!'." After she arrived in the US, she received her General Educational Development (GED), and resided in the country on a visa waiver for six years, returning to Australia every three months to renew it. Azalea worked in the US illegally until February 2013 when she was granted a five-year O visa. She chose the name Iggy after her dog. In 2018, Azalea was approved as a permanent U.S. resident Fast forward to 2022 and Iggy Azalea is where she wanted to be. Touring the world, releasing products such as perfumes and makeup, makes bags of money from her independent music, bought a new home and is a mother of a beautiful son.
Great808 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Her story is such an inspiration and definitely one of the most true rags to riches stories, it's a shame how things turned out for her regarding popularity all those years ago, she could have made a movie about herself. A lot of her recent single releases have been absolute bops tho Started, Lola, Kream, I Am The Strip Club, I Just Wanna, Sally Walker

After Hurricane Ike came through it destroyed a lot, including Azalea's apartment. During that time period Atlanta became a very popular place for rap music so Azalea moved once more. In 2009, she started a foreign hair business with a friend. In August 2010, she moved to Los Angeles when two individuals started trying to contact her due to a video she uploaded onto Youtube. After that deal went nowhere she started uploading more videos of her freestyling onto Youtube. In 2011, Azalea recorded and released her first full -ength project "Ignorant Art" which was followed by three music videos, one being released in 2012. https://iggy-azalea.fandom.com/wiki/Iggy_Azalea
Rowan Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Mullumbimby? Why do Australian towns always have weird names? Anyways, happy birthday
Slap Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 As somebody who has been to her hometown of Mullumbimby, trust me when I say it is insane that somebody as successful as her has come out of that anti vax hell hole where showering seems to be optional. She is such a hustler and was kind of smart to pay Australia dust because our hip hop scene around the time she started out was so cringeworthy and she never could’ve succeeded in it as a woman. Her success is something she should forever be proud of because, privilege aside, it definitely wouldn’t have happened without the constant hustle and hard work. Happy Birthday Iggy!

"Mullumbimby is a hot spot for the anti-vaccination movement. As of 2013, the town's vaccination rate was the lowest in Australia, with only 46% to 49% of children aged one, two and five years old in the 2482 postcode fully immunised, in contrast with a state average in the low 90s. In Mullumbimby, between 2015 and 2016 only 52% of five year olds were fully vaccinated, compared to the national average at the time of 92.9%." oh wow, you didn't lie I'm glad Iggy dropped her former groupmates after realizing that they weren't as dedicated and driven as her
