State of Grace. Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Quote “Harry is a really talented actor. I would work on something with him [but] the real issue with Harry is, he’s Harry Styles,” Luhrmann said. “He’s already an icon. Harry and I came to a place, genuinely I mean, he was just desperate to put the suit on and explore. He’s such a great spirit and I have nothing but great things to say about Harry Styles.” Luhrmann continued, “The thing about Austin was that he will tell you himself, I didn’t pick him: It’s as if he was drawn, like the role drew them in, because he was almost born to play it. You know, we can talk about it now, he like loses his mom at the same age that Elvis did. He sends a video to me with this thing and… He just happened like two years non-stop living and breathing as Elvis. He’s now going through a sort of, it’s like, deprogramming thing because he’s been a long time since he’s known who he was.” Butler has earned rave reviews for his “Elvis” performance, which earned a 12-minute standing ovation at its Cannes Film Festival world premiere. Warner Bros. is opening the music drama in U.S. theaters on June 24. Do yall think Harry would have been a better "Elvis" than Austin?
jqnetto Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Mr. Styles has a long portfolio of mimicking rockstars of the past so I believe he would absolutely nail this role.
sasashite Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Not surprised. He’s desperate to be legendary rockstars in real life too. Just grow a personality.

Honestly came to say this. He wants to position himself amongst prince, bowie, and other…but then makes the most uninspired, unchallenging music possible

Specter Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 At this point "because Harry Styles was desperate" should be enshrined as an all purpose clause in the dictionary
Dsmrs77 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 yet another director showing Harry some love Austin is 100% the best fit for this part. he clearly went all in and I don’t think Harry should be doing music biopics
Dark Phoenix Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 A British portraying an American midwestern legend? Yeah sure
James_Dean Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 I see nothing put praise for Harry from the director must be hard being a hater these days

I like Harry, and his aesthetic/schtick makes it obvious that this is what he's going for, but his music lacks the artistic depth and innovation to achieve it.

Europe Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 This is really smart marketing if you think about it . He lightly drags Harry in a soundbite while actually praising him if you get the full context. Harry currently has an active era so his name will bring in the clicks. Whoever came up with this, their PR sensibilities are on point.
livelikemusic Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 I love Harry, but the right decision was made in casting Austin as Elvis.
