LesFleur Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 (edited) This is so sad. Love the Way You Lie is Eminem's highest-certified song She co-wrote and featured on so many smashes in the early 2010s https://pagesix.com/2022/06/06/skylar-grey-sold-catalog-to-afford-divorce-from-elliott-taylor/ Quote Skylar Grey had to sell her music catalog to “afford” her divorce from fellow singer-songwriter Elliott Taylor. “Since 2017, I was going through a divorce and lawsuit, that was just wrecking me emotionally and financially,” Grey, 36, told Variety in an interview published Monday. “This past year, 2021, we finally resolved it, settled, I had to sell my catalog in order to afford the settlement, which was very sad in a way, because those songs like ‘Love The Way You Lie’ and ‘Coming Home,’ those are my babies.” Grey notably penned “Love the Way You Lie” for Eminem and Rihanna and “Coming Home” for Diddy, both released in 2010. She also memorably contributed to Dr. Dre’s performance of “I Need a Doctor” at the 2011 Grammys. Meanwhile, Grey and Taylor, 32, co-wrote Celine Dion’s “Falling in Love Again” for the pop icon’s 2019 album, “Courage.” “Nobody can tell me I didn’t write those songs just ’cause I don’t own the rights to them anymore,” Grey told Variety. “I didn’t want to sell them, but it was my only way to put the past behind me.” Though the musician never wanted to relinquish the rights to her her hits, she is relieved that they helped her break free from her marriage. “I have such a weight off of me now with the case being over, I’m not on the phone with lawyers every day, and I’m not having to pay all these legal bills anymore,” she said. “Now I’m just focused on creating a new catalog and new money and new opportunities.” Grey may be looking forward to the future, but she still reflects on her past work with a sense of pride. “[My songs are] still near and dear to my heart and yeah, I will always treasure them, but it’s different now. Every time one of those songs get used in a movie or whatever, I don’t see any of that money anymore. But unfortunately, the majority of what I got paid for my catalog went to taxes and my ex-husband,” she said with a laugh. “It’s like your life’s work, and then suddenly it’s like, ‘OK, I’ve got to give the majority of this away.’ But that was my only option. Luckily, I had the option of doing something like that, otherwise I may not have gotten out of the case.” Grey has emerged back into the spotlight with a new self-titled album that she describes as a “cathartic release” post-divorce. “It’s expressing a lot of emotions I felt over however many years it’s been,” she said. “And it was hard, it was a lot of turmoil, depression, I was going through a lot of ****. So this album, I feel like reflects those emotions and the things that I was going through.” As featured artist[edit] List of singles as featured artist, with selected chart positions and certifications, showing year released and album name Title Year Peak chart positions Certifications Album US [7] AUS [26] BEL [9] CAN [10] GER [11] IRE [12] NL [27] NZ [13] SWI [28] UK [14] "Where'd You Go"[A] (Fort Minor featuring Holly Brook and Jonah Matranga) 2005 4 41 56 7 18 — 15 14 62 — RIAA: Platinum[29] The Rising Tied "Hero 2.0"[A][30] (Badassjackson featuring Holly Brook) 2010 — — — — — — — — — — Non-album single "Coming Home" (Diddy–Dirty Money featuring Skylar Grey) 11 4 17 7 4 3 14 5 1 4 RIAA: 2× Platinum[31] ARIA: 2× Platinum[32] BPI: Gold IFPI SWI: Gold Last Train to Paris "I Need a Doctor" (Dr. Dre featuring Eminem and Skylar Grey) 2011 4 12 47 8 25 11 55 23 33 8 RIAA: 2× Platinum[33] ARIA: 2× Platinum[34] BPI: Platinum Non-album single "Words I Never Said" (Lupe Fiasco featuring Skylar Grey) 89 — — — — — — — — — Lasers "Room for Happiness"[35] (Kaskade featuring Skylar Grey) 2012 — — — — — — — — — — Fire & Ice "Shot Me Down" (David Guetta featuring Skylar Grey) 2014 —[F] 3 3 66 13 7 8 20 6 4 ARIA: 2× Platinum[36] BPI: Silver[37] MC: Gold[38] Listen "The Last Day"[39] (Moby featuring Skylar Grey) — — — — — — — — — — Innocents "Bed of Lies" (Nicki Minaj featuring Skylar Grey) 62 7 100 41 — 56 — 13 — 73 ARIA: Platinum[40] RMNZ: Gold[41] The Pinkprint "Beneath With Me"[42] (Kaskade and deadmau5 featuring Skylar Grey) 2016 — — — — — — — — — — Non-album single "Periscope" (Papa Roach featuring Skylar Grey) 2017 — — — — — — — — — — Crooked Teeth "Glorious" (Macklemore featuring Skylar Grey) 49 [43] 2 35 27 [44] 15 49 [45] 24 1 21 23 ARIA: 6× Platinum[46] BPI: Gold[47] MC: 2× Platinum[48] RMNZ: Platinum[49] Gemini "Mai Tais"[50] (Train featuring Skylar Grey) 2019 — — — — — — — — — — TBA "Held Up"[51] (Elliott Taylor featuring Skylar Grey) 2020 — — — — — — — — — — Broke Down "—" denotes a single that did not chart or was not released in that territory. gm4567 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 She seemed to have a promising career in the early 10s but outside of features she never made much noise. Her songs always bring me a lot of nostalgia for back then.
Miracle Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Hopefully Eminem keeps calling her, cause her last hit happened in the mid 2010 and it's sad that she had to give most of her money to her selfish husband, which, tbh, has to be a lot, Love The Way You Lie + Coming Home + I Need A Doctor alone probably costed millions alone, not even taking into account minor hits like Clarity, Walk on Water or Glorious

brainmaniac Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Why was her divorce so expensive? She didn’t have a prenup? “[My songs are] still near and dear to my heart and yeah, I will always treasure them, but it’s different now. anklebiterrs Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 I’m gonna give her a few streams, I feel so sad for her.
