Technicolor Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 X Quote When it comes to reality competition series, Tyra Banks broke the mold when she created America’s Next Top Model. The show gave viewers an inside scoop into the throat-cutting fashion and modeling industry. But many who participated in the show don’t have mushy feelings toward Banks. Eva Marcille says those who are upset are “salty.” Marcille was crowned the Cycle 3 winner, and the first Black model to win the competition series. She was 18-years-old at the time of her win and has gone on to have a successful runway and commercial/print modeling career, as well as acting, hosting a radio show, and appearing on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. She’s heard all of the backlash against banks from social media users and ANTM alum and is not here for it. In a recent interview with Behind the Velvet Rope podcast, Marcille spoke in defense of her mentor. First, Marcille notes that Banks doesn’t get appreciation for what she’s done. “Leave Tyra alone. Tyra Banks, Tyra Lynne Banks is my girl. No good deed goes unpunished. She created a show to give a platform to people that would never have an opportunity in this space…” she said. Secondly, Marcille says it’s up to the contestants to build upon their initial opportunity. “It’s one of those things where it was an opportunity, it’s like college: you go to school, you do something with your degree, or you don’t. And I think those that chose not to do anything with their degree are salty,” she noted.
fridayteenage Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 oh wow i didn't know she had almost 5 mil ig followers. tyra herself has 7. get that money ig.
professor2000 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 She right. ANTM is supposed to help them get attention and THEY (the contestants) need to turn it into opportunities after the show. That’s not Tyra’s job. She provided the platform, it’s up to you to take it to the next level. Same as Making the Band and all the other competition reality shows.
ATRL Moderator khalyan Posted June 7, 2022 ATRL Moderator Posted June 7, 2022 Of course she feels like this, because she won her season However I do agree with her for the most part. People like Chantal/Winnie trashing Tyra constantly even though that show is the reason she got so famous is just so...
fauxtography Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 I agree. The same for the queens on drag race who talk **** about rupaul after as if he ruined their life.
kyliefever2002 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 well i get why eva would think that since she won her cycle but many people have showed how much antm was actually bad for their image most girls couldnt get into the fashion industry not because they didnt have talent but because people looked down on antm cause it wasnt prestigious so, yeah, i can see where both sides are coming from
gugunikko Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 She’s right. Some of the girls feel like tyra is responsible for their career and should be helping them out but to tyra, it’s just another work.

Just that high fashion people feel like ANTM is just a reality show which they are not wrong but high fashion people even looked down on people who do catalog and commercial. Donquizote Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Well, she's right but that doesn't mean Tyra is not the biggest narcissist out there.
Kylizzle Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 This is true to an extent. People act like girls are drafted onto ANTM instead of going on there voluntarily. Especially girls in the later seasons, they knew the risks and still chose to go on reality TV.

The thing is most of the winner did have a pretty good career for a model. None of them became the next Naomi or Cindy Crawford but a lot of them got covers, huge campaigns, and booked runaway shows.

The7thStranger Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 It really depends on who is doing the "bashing." There are definitely instances where Tyra was a mean girl and exploited the contestants, and it's not only the unsuccessful girls who have a problem with her. Adrienne Curry, whether you hate her or love her, really got screwed over, and is justified in disliking Tyra.
Bey'Knight Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 What about their experience during the show though? I’ve heard how abhorrent they made their living conditions, sometimes depriving the girls of food for double digit hours of filming so they can get hangry reactions.

Or the gap tooth thing with Dani Evans.
Navyboy20 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 She's one of a handful of folks that actually made a career from being on the show so I understand why she would feel that way.
