Demi Lovato - 'HOLY FVCK'

Why does this album give me like classical book vibes? It's almost like a classical book in music form, Demetria is insane

Dead Friends gives me Phaedo or The Symposium by Plato vibes, Happy Ending gives Greek tragedy vibes, City of Angels gives Roman epic vibes... idk there's something philosophical and extremely epic about this album.

The slight but important differences in quality between the Eat Me solo version and collab version is WILD! The production here is just flawless all around. I've been loving all of the guitars, drums and soaring choruses and melodies. It's just ear candy all around with a lot of fun little surprises (like the angels singing at the end of Heaven which makes me laugh every time and the Sophie-esque ending to Bones) that she didn't used to include in her more standard pop albums like Confident and Demi.

It's beyond hard to pick a top 3 because I love them all much in different ways, but right now my most replayed are:

Come Together, Dead Friends, Eat Me

So many biblical references and so on point thematically... the title is literally what you get

Even SOMT the title is a biblical verse

Bones is SO experimental yet kinda so good, I'm so happy Demi is still MORE creative than ever 8 albums into their career. I cannot believe we have 8 albums! We've only seen the beginning of Demi as an artist. The 3 most recent projects (since TMYLM) have been top quality and keep getting better and better. Demi is a lot of fun as an artist tbh, like the personality is shinning thru and the vocal intonations Demi makes are iconic (like on Eat Me)

Demi could've easily made this album into a basic rock revival, but it's so much more complex and nuanced than that. There's sounds we never heard before from Demi. It's a return to form yet a whole new chapter.

Dead Friends is the most emo bop on here, that could easily be on my MySpace in 2006. Substance/City of Angels give me the feel-good fun teen punk that one would expect from this type of project (kind of like Love Sux), but they're actually moments of relief and even they ironically go hard content wise (a song shaming society as superficial and then a song filled with mouth-dropping sexual innuendos). This album goes harder and more Southern rock than anyone would expect, yet it works with the themes of religion and sex.

By the way: Happy birthday Demi!

I see it not gonna lie. Come Together is so infectiously bubblegum-esque and airy (the verses remind me of No Promises). It always blows my mind and makes me chuckle when I remember it's about cumming. I also love how Demi ends the song "Paradise is even better when we CUM" without "together" lmao it's literally no shame or subtlety, Demetria wants us to know it's about joint orgasming.

Does anybody know what Demi's highest note is in 'Come Together'?

I'm pleasantly surprised by how good this album is. I wasn't a fan of her last record.

Bones, Heaven, and 29 are my favorites.

I disliked the two singles and gave up on the project.

I wanted her to do like early 00s rock ballads.

The two singles are definitely the weakest on the album idk why they chose them.

That was a fun first listen :clap3: Every song caught my attention in some way. Only Help Me I don't really care for.

It's cohesive but there's enough variation. This sound suits her voice well, and there's so many powerful lyrics.
